Weekly CARC Update: 19/02/2024-25/02/2024

News

Happy Sunday Crofties and non-Crofties. I hope you’re ready for your weekly dose of CARC news? You are? Brilliant!

It was Junior training at Wigmore on Monday, followed by Seniors on Tuesday and Thursday. This week our seniors focused on hills and long intervals, with the added challenge of the “dreaded” Bleep Test that many had a go at!

On Saturday, our club was out in force at Ludlow Parkrun with Clare acting as Race Director once again. Thank you to our members who came forward to volunteer – it was a full house of marshals this weekend. For our members who ran, it was another first place finish for Eric, with Toby (and dog Sonny) finishing in 3rd. Junior runner; Oliver, also finished in the top ten, with brother; Owen, just missing out in 11th. Bronwyn was first female. Over in Hereford, Sam J also took another win. While Steph K was doing Parkrun touristy things at Penrith Parkrun in Cumbria. Well done all!

Sunday was all about the final XC race in the Hereford and Borders Winter Cross Country League. And, although, what can only be described as it being a complete “mud fest,” we had one of the best Croft turnouts we have seen in a long time!

Our Junior runners were first up for their XC race, with Wren, Ted, Taite, Owen, Oliver, Summer and Jamie all taking part! Well done to all of our Juniors who have ran for Croft over the course of the Winter League season! We’re extremely proud of how far you have all come!

Next up was the Seniors who had to contend with a 3 lap “undulating” race that was wet, boggy and extremely muddy! However, this didn’t stop Croft runners from going out there and clawing back 1st in the Team’s Championship, with Croft Men taking home the trophy for a third consecutive year. And, although our ladies team finished in 2nd, we managed to shorten Builth’s lead down to under 14 minutes from 25. Other Croft winners were:

1st in Age Category: Eric and Steph M

2nd in Age Category: Gareth, Simon, Steve, Jo M, Neil, Ian and Ali D

3rd in Age Category: Sam H, Anna and Tom D. This was Tom’s 40th year of running in a Herefordshire winter cross country league. An amazing runner and such an inspiration to all of us.

Incredible effort, Crofties!

And, that’s it for this week. Please remember that our upcoming training sessions will be available to view on our Facebook page every Sunday evening. In the meantime, don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
