Weekly CARC Update: 13/11/23 – 19/11/23

News

It’s time again, already. Welcome to your weekly CARC update, detailing what our club members have been up to this week.

In contrast to last week’s Tuesday session, this Tuesday’s was cold, wet and muddy, as our runners put their sprinting skills to the test around the orchards of Shobdon. On Thursday, it was over to High Vinnalls, working on long intervals around the easy access loop (or, first bit of the parkrun lap.) Croft runners seem to be really enjoying training sessions with two more fantastic turn outs!

A typical Autumnal morning greeted our runners on Saturday as they rocked up for Ludlow Parkrun. We only had a handful of runners taking part this weekend, with one of our Junior members; Oliver, being the first Croftie home in 17th place. There were no PBs this week but I just want to give a special shout out to the Croft dogs – Bhodi (sorry Tory if I spelled that wrong!) and Barry, who fought hard until the end, with Barry taking the win between them.

It was also a busy Saturday for two of our runners – Eric and Gareth, who were representing East Wales at the Inter Regional XC in Newtown, Powys. Eric finished in 47th and Gareth in 36th.

Also on Saturday, Flora and Gary took part in the Paenmaenmawr Fell Race. Flora finished in 2:13:28 and Gary in 2:26:49.

On Sunday there were plenty of races for our runners to take part in. First up was the Callow Fell Race, taking place in Little Stretton, Shropshire. At the time of writing, no results are live but at least two Crofties took on the challenge of the steep Shropshire Hills. Sticking with the trail theme, Steph M raced the Beckbury Trail this morning near Telford. She finished in 59:06 and was fourth in her age category.

Sunday was also the day for the Nash and Boraston 10k dash. This is a race that our club generally goes well at, and today was no different with Sam J taking the win in just over 36 minutes. There were also prizes for Simon and Jo T who won their respective age categories. Jo also came home as 4th female!

Some of our runners also enjoy going on weekend social runs. Today, Ali, Theresa, Anna and Emily ran from Craven Arms to Church Stretton via the trails. If their picture is anything to go by, it sounds as if they had a fantastic day and enjoyed their well deserved soup afterwards.

Finally, we’d like to give a shoutout to Flora who last week competed in the Llyn y Fan Fell Race, which she completed in 1:23:29. Well done Flora!

So, that’s another week over with.  We look forward to what the next week will bring. Don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
