Sunday is upon us and so is the Weekly CARC Update! It’s been another busy one with plenty of training, races and award winning. Shall we see what our Sky Blue have been up to?
After a weeks break, our Juniors were back at it on Monday at Wigmore School. Once again they used the running track, while they can, running at different interval lengths.

On Tuesday, our Senior runners took part in the last Leinthall Starkes Race in this year’s Handicap Series. Nearly 40 Croft runners came out to give the final road race of the handicap series a whirl before we move onto the trails of Bircher Common! Joe L, Tom D and Stuart were our Top 3 on the night. There were 8 new PB’s, with Sian improving the most by a massive 02:22. Several runners took to the Leinthall lanes for the first time this year. And, some got very wet in the rain! For a full account of Tuesday evening’s action, read Mike B’s report here! Alternatively, if you’re a part of our Members Facebook Page, check it out on there.

Continuing with Senior training, Thursday’s session was with Tim at Croft and featured Hill sets and a heard of cows! That’s pretty normal for one of our Summer training sessions at our namesake!

Throwing it back to Tuesday, Eric took part in the final race in the Brecon 3-4-5 Series in Llanfynach. This last race was the 5 miler and another win for Eric to go with his 3 mile and 4 miler wins. He was also the series overall winner!
Also on Tuesday, Saffi ran the undulating 2 mile Sri Chinmoy race and placed 4th female in just over 13 minutes.

Wednesday saw the final race in this year’s Hereford Couriers 5k Series. And, although our Senior numbers were a bit thin on the ground throughout the 3 races, our Juniors were out there shining! Results from Wednesday’s race:
Saffi Reid – 20:31 – 1st FU13
Oliver Marsh – 21:25 – 1st MU17
Owen Marsh – 22:48 – 1st MU15
Janet Hill – 29:13 – 1st FV70
As for the Overall Series results, only our 3 Juniors counted as they competed in all 3 races. Saffi finished 4th female overall and 1st in age. Oliver M finished 3rd in age and Owen M finished 4th in age. How incredible it is seeing our young runners going from strength to strength! Well done all!

Parkrun Saturday and once again plenty of Sky Blues were out and about. In Ludlow, Toby A finished in 1st with a time of 19:30. Toby S joined him in the Top 10. Jamie and Guy volunteered. Over at Hereford, it was another win for Sam J, finishing in a time of 16:19. Also running was Joe L. Elsewhere, Liv ran at Newtown Parkrun with a time of 23:51 and Angus at Littlehampton, West Sussex in 27:58.
On Saturday it was the Midland Counties Track and Field Championships in Nuneaton and Saf ran the 3000m in 11:43 earning herself an all women UK ranking and a very credible 4th in the under 15 girls category.

Well done to Lucy who has been busy on the track down in London. She took part in the Comeback 5000 Battersea Park finishing in 19.08 and the 800m Debut in National Athletics League finishing in 2.27.

Oscar ran at the Swansea Half Marathon on Sunday morning – the only Croft member to do so. He finished in 01:38:15.

After his Parkrun tourism in Littlehampton on Saturday, Angus ran the Worthing 10k on Sunday. His time was 53:44.

Janet has been doing ” the most scenic trail marathon in Britain;” Coniston Marathon. She said, “a lovely route, good conditions, a bit gnarly underfoot in places, 3000 foot of ascent in just under 6 hours”. First (and only) FV70. Here she is on the podium!

Saf was back on the track in Cardiff on Sunday, taking part in the Welsh League where she ran a PB in the 800m and a PB in long jump as well.
Rounding out the week is Eric who was apart of Builth Running Club’s Welsh Castles Relay team for 2025. He got the opportunity to run the “glory leg” aka Stage 20. This was the last leg that went from Caerphilly to Cardiff. He would finish his stage in 6th position, with a time of 51:44. Well done to Eric and to all of our friends at Builth for an incredible weekend. I, Bronwyn, travelled with Eric this weekend from Porthmadog to Cardiff, and it was an absolute honour to support and watch such a brilliant event.
Well done all for another fantastic week. The upcoming training schedule will be live on our Facebook on Monday morning. In the meantime, don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
