High Vinnalls 28 June 2017

Race Reports

The second summer league race was held in autumnal conditions, with low cloud and drizzle, and after just one day’s relatively light rain, some parts of the course were quite hasardous. Thirty four Croft runners competed, slightly down on Westhope numbers, but it was a more demanding course, and further to travel for many – we still provided over 20% of the competitors. Someone suggested to me beforehand that it was a course for Sam Mayglothling, and sure enough he came home first, in his new Wye Valley colours, over a minute ahead of Mark L (36.16) who ran a magnificent race in second. Nigel ran well, as second Croft counter, in 14th place (39.54), just ahead of Neil P (40.11) and Dave G (40.14). Irina, like Nigel, ever reliable and consistent,  was our first lady (45th, 44.19) with Emma, improving all the time (50th, 44.49) completing the A team, who managed a very respectable second place (on the day, and overall, behind Wye Valley). Congratulations too to Oscar (31st, 42.37), just pipping Laura Tootell, first lady, on the line, and to Will, for a vast improvement on his Westhope performance. Nick and Scott stuck to the task well on a tough course, and hats off to Victoria, Courtney and Rachel for tackling, and defeating, the High Vinnalls race. Abbeydore and Shobdon should seem easier!
