Weekly CARC Update: 16/10/23 – 22/10/23

News

Welcome to your weekly CARC update, detailing “briefly” what our club members have been up to this week.

Training on Tuesday was held by Tim J around the car park at Croft Castle. He decided to base the session around shorter intervals, measuring pace using a scale of 1-10. One was walking and ten being as fast as you can go. Whereas on Thursday, it was all about the long intervals. Although a wet evening, it didn’t stop our runners from turning up to Eric’s session on the flat, straight roads behind Kingspan in Shobdon.

Saturday was Parkrun day with another win for Mark T at Ludlow with a time of 20:22. Simon, George, Toby and Tim J joined him in the top ten. We had a total of 13 Sky Blues take part this weekend, with another 4 volunteering.

Also on Saturday, following on from the success of last year’s session, a small group of Crofties took part in a first aid course kindly put on by Theresa Jones and Chris Reeves. We aim to get as many of our runners, as possible, trained with basic first aid skills, as you never know when you’ll need them. It was a fun and educational morning, full of snacks and beverages!

Sunday was race day, and a successful race day it was for our runners.

First up was the Ron Skilton Half Marathon where, after finishing 3rd and 2nd in previous years, Eric finally took the win, crossing the line only three seconds ahead of the second place finisher. There was also a win for the Croft team overall, and a second place for the club in the relay. Official results are, at the time of writing, yet to be released.

Down in Hereford was the Hope Valley Run hosted by Hereford Couriers. Our own Sam J took the win at this race, finishing over a minute ahead of second place, despite taking a wrong turn which he had to rectify.

To round things up, Hannah was in Shrewsbury taking part in the Shrewsbury 10k. She finished in under 40 minutes, crossing the line 3rd in the female category and 1st in her age group.

So, that’s another week over with.  We look forward to what the next week will bring. Don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
