Weekly CARC Update: 14/04/2025-20/04/2025

News

Happy Sunday and Happy Easter all! It’s that time of the week once again so sit back, relax and enjoy another dose of everyone’s favourite Weekly CARC Update.

One race we missed last Sunday was the Llangollen Fell Race which Flora took part in. According to her watch, this race was 10.25 miles with 2028ft of total ascent. She said: “There are 78 runners in total who took part of the short distance 10.25 miles. I didn’t do the 17 miles this time because of my poor old legs are getting tired. There’s quite a bit on tarmac, undulating course. My time results: 1:53:36 finished in 57th place and I’m the only one in my age category. Great race. I did enjoy it.”

Back to this week and our Junior runners are currently on their well deserved 2 week Easter break so we’ll have to catch up them in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, our Seniors are still keeping up with their weekly training sessions. Both Tuesday and Thursday’s sessions were taken at Croft Castle by Sam H and Emma. Sam’s Tuesday session was a Social Run with Sprints along the way. While Emma’s session involved Short Intervals.

On Wednesday evening, Saffi headed up to Wellington in Shropshire to take part in the Wrekin Streak Fell Race – the first in the Shropshire Summer Fell Series. It was 4.5K and at 12yrs she ran with the under 15’s, under 17’s and the adults. She held her own finishing in 26mins just over 6 minutes behind the winner and a £10 cash prize for 1st U15G.

Good Friday meant an extra day off work for some lucky people and an extra day of running for some even more luckier people, and it was particularly good for Croft runners who ran at the Leominster 5k and 10k with many Sky Blues coming away with a top three finish in their respective age categories. Full Croft results can be seen below, but some stand out performances in particular go to Mia for running her first sub-20 minute 5k (and beating her dad) and Gareth for running in the 5k before finishing 1st overall in the 10k. Well done all!

Angus Kirby – 54:04 – 2nd VM60
Sue Purvin – 57:08 – 1st VF60

Parkrun Saturday was relatively quiet for Croft runners with only 5 taking part in Ludlow Parkrun. Jamie was our first runner home finishing in 27th. Naomi, who was tail walking, was our first and only female. We’d also like to say a big congratulations to Oli C-S for taking part in his 100th Parkrun and to Jamie for his 150th Volunteer at a Parkrun. Angus, Frank, Naomi, Jamie, Michelle S and Tim S volunteered. Over in Hereford, there was a double Croft win with Sam J finishing first overall and Kath finishing first female overall. Rob M also took part with Sam J also being mentioned as a volunteer. At Hereford Junior Parkrun on Sunday, Saffi finished 2nd overall and 1st overall female while recording a new PB.

Several of our runners are now in the tappering stage of their marathon preparations with London, Manchester and Stratford marathons happening next Sunday. As runners there is only one thing better than running a marathon – and that’s watching friends take on the challenge. If you’re running, and you’re happy for other Crofties to track your progress, reply to my post on Facebook so we can share your number. You’ll have friends supporting you every step of the way – albeit from the comfort of their sofa!

Well done all for another fantastic week. The upcoming training schedule will be live on our Facebook on Monday morning. In the meantime, don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
