Weekly CARC Update: 02/12/2024-08/12/2024

News

Here we are once again for another weekly update on everyone’s favourite running club. Shall we begin?

Well done to our Juniors for kicking off the week with another fantastic training session at Wigmore School. The same can be said for our Seniors who trained at Croft on Tuesday and Wigmore on Thursday. Tuesday’s session was coached by Clare and was all about long intervals around the Croft Castle Car Park. Thursday’s session was focused on short intervals around the football pitch on the high school playing field with Kelly at the helm. Great running by all!

One thing I was trying to avoid talking about this week was the weather but here we are. Once again the weather turned sour with the arrival of Storm Darragh and severe weather warnings. So, of course, keeping in with recent themes, numerous Parkruns found themselves cancelled on Saturday morning. All bar one, that is. Hereford went ahead, most likely due to it’s spacious location. Our own runner Sam J would come first in Saturday’s event in a time of 18:11. Croft Junior, Saffi, also took part, finishing 1st female in a time of 22:35.

Having Ludlow Parkrun cancelled was a kick in the teeth for Croft Ambrey Running Club as we prepared to hold a club takeover and food bank collection event for this day. But fear not, we have rescheduled for next Saturday 14th December and we can’t wait to host you all! We’ve been promised calmer weather by Ludlow’s own and Croft friend, Tim Giles, so fingers crossed for a fantastic day next weekend! The picture below (not owned by us but I’m low on media for this week’s report) is from Killhorse Lane, the road leading to the Ludlow Parkrun High Vinnalls Carpark!

There were also repercussions from Saturday’s storm on Sunday with the cancellation of Race 2 in the Hereford and Borders Winter XC League at Rotherwas. Another frustrating weekend for runners alike. We’re not sure what will be happening with this race. Croft members, please keep your eyes peeled on the newsletter and Facebook pages for information.

With plenty of other races also cancelled, one did go ahead – Jingle Hells, in which Flora and Tim J took part in. Flora said on Facebook: “Jingle Hell race results 08/12/2024=(6.61 miles and 4206ft. total ascent) recorded in my watch. There are 59 runners taking part. Tim and myself from CARC. Great race but brutal,I did enjoyed it. Well done to Tim.”

Results:
Tim Jones =1:58:02 finished in 47th place (came 5th in his age category)
Flora Gunner = 1:56:22 finished in 43rd place (came 1st in my age category)

Well, that’s it for this week I’m afraid. Please remember that our upcoming training sessions will be available to view on our Facebook page every MONDAY MORNING. In the meantime, don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
