Man v Horse

News

We were blessed with a fine sunny day, not too hot and not too much wind. Gary G and Nicky bravely committed themselves to running the whole 22 miles, while Dan and Gary P made the decision to run at the last minute. Stacey also appeared, having been recruited by Jonathan Pugh the night before to join the ‘6 are better than 4’ team, and a successful run they had too: first relay team, just behind the 2nd male runner. Once again the horse won (2hrs 7 mins), 10 minutes clear of Haggai Chepkwony (a previous winner). The first lady, Antoinette Minniti, crossed the line in 2.48.27. Gary P (having done some secret solo training!) was the first Croft runner to run the 22 miles ( 3hr 5min 21s), followed by Dan (3.11.59), young Dave (spurred on by a phonecall while running, from his mum, wondering where he was!) in 3.19.07, and then Nicky who finished 2nd FV50, just 4 minutes behind the winner, in 3.32.52 – what a great run! Gary G felt the lack of recent training (blame the volcanic ash!) and came home in 3.41.16, having also run the first leg of our over 60 relay team. Tom ran the second leg, handing over in a combined time of 2hrs 10mins – ahead of my predicted time, so it was a quick strip off and away. We finished in 3.10.57, 6th vet team (out of 27), and first over 50 and over 60, but with no trophy to show for it. Catherine gamely stuck to the task, spending nearly 5 hours on her feet, finishing in 4.54.57.
