Weekly CARC Update – Week 18/08/25-24/08/25

News

It’s hello to another Sunday evening, and hello to another Weekly CARC Update! Crofties have been out enjoying the lovely weather this week, it’s fair to say we’ve been extremely lucky this Summer! Shall we take a look at their running shenanigans?

CARC’s Junior runners got another week off to enjoy their Summer Holidays, while our Seniors were busy with Handicap races and training sessions.

Tuesday was another wonderful and exciting evening to be had on Bircher Common for the next race in this year’s Bryan Markham Handicap Series! Over 40 runners took part. 39 of these were Senior Croft runners – 4 of whom made their debuts on the course. We also welcomed 3 of our Junior runners and 2 guest runners! As our own Mike B has said: “It turned out to be an exciting action-packed race with the final result in question until the last few strides.” The next, and final, race will be on Tuesday 2nd September!

Your top 3 on the night:
Sam Harper
Hayley Colebatch
Paul Lewis

Your PBs on the night:
Paul Lewis – PB by 02:34
Rob Martin – PB by 45 seconds
Henry Eastman – PB by 02:06
Rachel Tyrrell – PB by 01:23
Angus Kirby – PB by 58 seconds
Jamie Symonds – PB by 50 seconds – New Junior Male Record
Irina Whitfield – PB by 43 seconds
Ireland Lawrence – PB by 02:17

Thursday’s training looked a little bit different as welcomed runners for Hay Hotfooters for a social run around Croft. This would take in some of our Croft Wood favourites including the Ambrey and Bircher Common, before heading down to The Bell in Yarpole village for some chatter, drinks and food!

Saffi missed taking part in the Bircher Handicap race this week due to racing down the road in Chepstow! She smashed her mile PB in 05:44 and finished 1st female and 9th overall.

The rest of the working week was nice and quiet, before Parkrun Saturday crept up on us!

We had plenty of Crofties running at local Parkruns this week including Ludlow, Hereford and Riverside Walk in Hay. Starting with Ludlow, it was newly signed member; Mike B, who was the first Croft runner to cross the line. He finished in 21st with a time of 24:37. There were no PBs this week. Volunteers were Paul L, Seb, Jamie, Michelle S and Guy. Over in Hereford, it was another comfortable win for Sam J, finishing with a time of 17:06. Lisa also ran, finishing in 28:54. Angus ran at Riverside Walk Parkrun in Hay. His time was 29:34. We’ve also had a couple of Croft take on some Tourist Parkruns this weekend. Toby ran at Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve Parkrun in Wales. He finished in 37th position with a time of 23:39. Down in London, Eric ran at South Oxhey Parkrun, where he finished 1st, with a margin to the rest of the pack. His time was 17:57.

And, that’s just the beginning of what was a very busy weekend!

Saffi was racing again on Saturday, this time at the Welsh 3000m Championships. She finished in 4th, with another PB of 11:34.

This weekend, Ali B is taking part in the Sirona 100! She began at 6am on Saturday morning in Barmouth, following the coast of West Wales, where she will eventually finish in Cardigan. The Sirona 100 tells participants that they “will experience some of the most varied terrain the Wales Coast Path has to offer.” At the time of writing, Ali finds herself near the settlement of Mwnt, with an estimated finish time of 18:06 on Sunday evening. Best of luck, Ali!

Only a small group out at this month’s Club Championship race – Pershore Plum 10k. All 5 Crofties worked hard to bring home some good results on a flat course of mixed terrain!

Eric Apperley – 34:22 – 2nd Overall
Paul Lewis – 51:58
Rob Wood – 54:03
Sue Wood – 58:03 – 2nd FV65
Angus Kirby – 01:02:11

We’ve had some great feedback on this race from our runners and highly recommend it! Thank you to Pershore Plum Plodders for a brilliant event. We’ll be back!

Elsewhere on Sunday, Kath was in Northern Ireland for the Antrim Coast Half Marathon. She finished in 01:43:00.

With Junior Parkruns taking place on Sunday, Saffi headed down to Monmouth to run there before the event moves to a new venue. She would finish the Parkrun with the new female course record.

Well done all! The upcoming training schedule will be live on our Facebook on Monday morning. In the meantime, don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
