Weekly CARC Update – Week 04/08/25-10/08/25

News

Hello to Sunday! It’s been another fun week at Croft Ambrey Running Club and I’m back to give you all the ins and outs of our runners achievements from the week! Are you ready?

Monday saw our Juniors take part in their last session for the Summer. As for Seniors, it was everyone’s favourite; Chairman’s Challenge, on Tuesday before a Sprint session at Croft Castle on Thursday.

Switching back to Tuesday’s Chairman’s Challenge, a race in which our runners set off on a handicapped time, to chase down Chairman Huw, beating him back to the start and winning a well earned pint on him. Over 30 Croft members, including a walking group, timers and supporters, came out to enjoy the evening at Lingen. With all of our runners back home, safe and sound – no lost Chairman this year, there would be 7 hardy Crofties who would finish before Huw, earning themselves that crispy pint. Well done to Natalie, Jonathan, Anna, Ali B, Sam H, Oli C-S and Jo T. Thank you to Huw for setting up another successful Chairman’s Challenge year, to Mike B for his wonderful timing skills, to Theresa, Tori and Theresa’s parents for marking out the course/marshaling and to The Royal George in Lingen for hosting us rowdy bunch! Full times are:

Also this week, a bunch of 7 Sky Blues headed over to Bridgnorth, Shropshire to take part in the Burwarton Show 5k and 10k races! Amy, Reachel, Tom and Alison were our 5k runners, all coming away with a Top 3 in their respective Age Categories. The 10k saw Angus, Sue and Rob take part, all coming home with a brilliant 1st in their respective Age Categories!

5k results:
Amy Purivn – 31:17 – 3rd Senior Female
Reachel Kenny – 38:13 – 1st FV60
Tom Davies – 43:29 – 1st MV75
Alison Davies – 53:09 – 2nd FV35

10k results:
Rob Wood – 59:22 – 1st MV70
Angus Kirby – 01:03:31 – 1st MV60
Sue Wood – 01:06:19 – 1st FV65

Saffi was racing on Wednesday in Wales. She took part in the Run4All Neath 5k where she finished 6th female, with a time of 20:16.

Onto Parkrun Saturday and there several Crofties taking part, home and away!

Steve was our leading Croft runner at Ludlow Parkrun, finishing in 7th with a time of 21:21. Simon would also finish in the Top 10. First Croft lady was Steph K. Paul, Jamie, Michelle and Guy volunteered. Rob and Sue W headed over to Hereford Parkrun this weekend. Rob finished in 26:53 and Sue in 28:51. Mia ran at Groe Parkrun in Builth Wells. She finished in 10th position and 2nd female with a time of 20:20. There was a PB for Scott at Coldham Common Parkrun in Cambridge, where he finished 8th in a time of 17:29. At Clapham Common Parkrun in London, Liza ran while down in the capital visiting Lucy. Liza finished in 24:46. She told us: “PB 24.46 age group win and 78% age grading . 968 runners. Chaotic start and finishing funnel like airport security queue!” Angus was taking part in a bit more of Parkrun Tourism on Saturday. He ran at Tewkesbury Parkrun, finishing in 27:47. Meanwhile, Tom and Ali D found themselves at Penrhyn Parkrun in North Wales. Tom finishing in 41:49 and Ali in 46:30. Rounding out our Parkruns for this week was Sam J. He ran at Bryn Bach Parkrun, finishing in 1st with a new 5k PB time of 15:17. Wow!

Elsewhere on Saturday, Tim J took part in the Ragleth Spunch Mini Mountain Marathon. What is a Spunch, you ask? A Spunch is a type of orienteering event with a rolling start time that requires participants to navigate their own way using maps. Unfortunately, I’ve been unable to find any results online, but according to Tim’s Strava he completed 16.34 miles in just under 4 hours.

Saffi headed down to Swansea Bay, also on Saturday. She ran a 800m race, finished 1st FU15 in all heats.

Onto a warm and sunny Sunday!

First up is RunningMonk’s Into The Woods 10k. This is a 10k race that takes place around the outskirts of the undulating Sowdley Woods in Clun. Saffi was first Croft member home, first female overall and first FU17. Her time was 55:37. Paul L was the next Sky Blue home, his time was 01:01:23, with Lee following in 01:09:13.

Eric was running further up north in Caernarfon, North Wales at the Caernarfon 10k; the 3rd race in the Welsh 10k Championship Series after the cancelling of the Wrexham 10k. With a last minute change to the course – now in reverse, Eric finished in 34:56 and in 12th position.

Our group of social runners were back at it on Sunday, running 10 miles from Pembridge to Titley and back, before a scrumptious breakfast at a local farm shop.

Finishing off the week, is Simon, who recently took part in the Cwm Yr Eglwas long distance swim. Yes, that’s right, we said swim not run. We celebrate all of our athletes achievements here! He said: “Whilst on holiday last week did not do a run race but a swim race. The fantastic Cwm Yr Eglwas long distance swim well, 1 mile sea swim. They take you out in speed boats to another beach, drop you off and only way back is swim! 80 of us started and I finished 8th in 22 mins. Fantastic old school event and finished with a BBQ & beers for everyone on beach as reward!”
