Weekly CARC Update – Goodbye 2023!

News

We hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and that your New Year celebrations will be as extravagant as ever. But, after another successful year of running at Croft Ambrey Running Club, it’s time to say goodbye to 2023 and welcome new beginnings with open arms. In 2024, we look forward in helping our runners to train for different challenges, keep fit and enjoy a good natter at the several social events we hold throughout the year. Before that, however, let’s take a quick look at what some Crofties have been up to in the week between Christmas and New Year.

With training on hold over the festive period, we’ve instead held a couple of social runs for the runners wanting to get together with their Croft buddies and take on the roads and trails in the local area.

In the first of our festive social runs, Tim J took a group up Bircher Common/Croft Wood to burn off all the Christmas treats from the day prior. In, what turned out to be a “Croft Magical, Mystery Tour,” we explored parts of our stomping ground that we are yet to venture onto. It’s incredible how big Bircher and Croft really is. But that wasn’t all, with extremely muddy footpaths and a few fallen trees, it did, at times, become an obstacle course. Nevertheless, it was a fun and enjoyable 6 miles on Boxing Day morning!

The second of the Croft social runs took Crofties further afield to the Shropshire Hills for a go at the Choc-O Run. Two groups – one tackling the long course, the second the shorter – set out on Saturday morning to follow the clues to find the chocolates and sweet treats hidden on the Longmynd. Despite the wet, windy and wild weather, both groups managed to complete the challenge, winning that all important chocolate. Well done everyone.

Our friends at fellow running club; Hereford Couriers, held a Christmas 10k race this past Thursday, with many Crofties taking part, despite numerous floods and more wild weather impacting Herefordshire. It was a good race for Croft runners with a haul of awards being taken away.

Results:

1st for Croft Men’s Team
3rd for Eric Apperley (Aswell as 2nd in age category)
3rd in age category for Sam Juson
3rd in age category for Rob Wood
2nd in age category for Tom Davies
1st in age category for Bryan Markham
There were also new 10k PBs for a number of our runners. Well done all!

So, there we have it – the end of 2023. Thank you Croft runners for your continued support. We look forward to what 2024 is going to bring!
