Welcome all to your Weekly CARC Update! It’s been an exciting week for Croft runners with plenty of events going on. Shall we take a look??

With the Wigmore Track starting to fade away fast into the grass, our Juniors took to it for, what could be, the last time this Summer season. This Monday they focused on 200m Sprint Relays in groups of 3. Our Senior runners repeated the same session on Thursday for their training evening.

Tuesday evening saw Race 4 of this year’s Handicap Series, and the first of our trail races at Bircher. And boy, did our runners make an excellent start to the trail portion of the year! Tom D was our first place finisher on the evening, finishing ahead of Paul L and Steph K. We had several runners making their debuts on the Bircher course, as well as others coming away with a new PB!

PBs went to:
Ingrid Mason
Nicola Luscott
Irina Whitfield
Grant Womack
Mia Davies

Not only did Mia come away with a new PB, but she, once again, broke the female course record! There were also a number of new age category records sets. Kath now holds the FV45 record, Jo M FV55, Janet FV70 and Jamie; the Junior Men’s.

And, this was only the first race of three! Mike B has written a report in which you can read here! Surely there are plenty more PBs to come? Full results are:

Onto Parkrun Saturday. With Sunday being the inaugural Hillfort Hustle Race, hosted by us, numbers were down for this week’s Parkrun report. At Ludlow, with our very own Angus as RD, Steve was first Croftie across the line in 8th position. Seb joined him in the top ten. Steph and Jamie volunteered. Over in Newtown, Eric and Bronwyn ran. Eric finished in 2nd. We also had 2 Croft runners; Simon and Neil, head over to Douglas in the Isle of Man, to run at Noble Parkrun. Simon finished 9th.

Our Fell Runners were busy once again this weekend, this time taking part in the 9+ mile International Snowdon Race. Flora told us: “We’re 418 runners who took part of the race. Seven runners did not finish the race. It must be heat was the reason, it was very hot during the race.

Our time results:
Patrick P. 2:11:08 finished in 295th place and 14/36 (M 55+).
Gary P. 2:14:57 finished in 319th place and (21/36 (M 55+).
Ireland 2:19:40 finished in 348th place and (24/26 (FSEN).
Gary Gunner 2:46:44 finished in 403rd place and 9/11 (M 70+).
Flora Gunner 2:16:36 finished in 332nd place and 3/4 (F 60+).

I forgot to mention just to say a big thank you to Tom D. and Alison D. that came to support us, we really appreciate it!”

WOW! What a first Hillfort Hustle that was! We’re so glad that you all enjoyed it! Well done to everyone who took part in the races today – 139 people in the 10 Mile, 86 people in the 5 Mile and several young runners in the Junior Fun Run! Incredible for the inaugural event! We’d also like to give an enormous thank you to all the volunteers and marshals! Your help and support is essential to these events being successful and today you pulled out all the stops. You’re an amazing bunch of people! It’s been a busy, busy day so we won’t add full CARC results here. You can find them here.

We’ll round out the week with Saffi! On Saturday she was at the Rabbit Run in Wales. She ran the 4km Double Bunny race in 12:38 and finished 4th girl in the super competitive 11-16 year old age category. She took part in the Gloucester Open on Wednesday where she ran the 800m and matched her PB. On Sunday, she ran Junior Parkrun in Hereford, finishing first female in 07:42.

Well done all! The upcoming training schedule will be live on our Facebook on Monday morning. In the meantime, don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
