Weekly CARC Update: 12/05/2025-18/05/2025

News

Hello, Sunday! It’s that time of the week yet again! And, after the craziness of last week, we thought that this week would be much more quieter… boy, were we wrong! Let’s dig in!

Our youngsters were back to it on Monday, after missing last week due to Bank Holiday. This week they got to enjoy a pyramid session on the Wigmore School Playing Field track while dodging the thunderstorms that were in the vicinity. There were also a couple of new faces this week; welcome!

For our Seniors, Tuesday was a hill session at Croft with Eric at the helm. This training consisted of 4 x 6 minutes of Kenyan Hills. While Thursday’s session with Huw began with Sprints on the Shobdon Church drive before switching to Hills up to the Arches.

Wednesday was a busy day for CARC Junior; Saffi. First of all she took part in the District Combined Events Pentathlon – 800m, High Jump, Long jump, 75m hurdles and shot. She placed 4th which she was pleased with as mum tells us she isn’t really into field events. She is waiting to hear if she has been selected to represent Hereford and Worcester at the Midlands Regional Championships at the end of June. After competing in track and field all day she ran the Caradoc Fell on Wednesday night and placed 2nd FU15.

It was another busy Parkrun Saturday with many Crofties running near and far. Grant would be this week’s Ludlow Parkrun winner with a PB time of 19:35. 8 other Crofties would also join Grant on this course. Neil and Jamie volunteered. Over in Wyre Forest, Angus, Ali B, Anna and Huw ran, all while promoting our new race for 2025; Hillfort Hustle. A relatively new parkrun is Park in the Past Parkrun. This parkrun is located just north of Wrexham and held it’s 3rd event on Saturday. Eric and Bronwyn ran here as did nearly 400 other people. Eric finished 2nd in 16:53. Bronwyn was 9th female in 24:33. Sam J was running the other side of Wales at Aberystwyth Parkrun. He finished 1st with a new PB of 16:34. In Telford, Oliver M ran his Telford Parkrun debut in 21:53, a new PB – well done Oliver!

Saturday also saw the Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB event. We’re currently unsure as to how many Croft runners took part in either the 25k, 50k, 100k or 100m. But know that some were there! When we have more information, we will share it with you!

Well done to Simon for representing not only CARC, but also Team GB, at this year’s Middle Distance European Triathlon Championships in Pamplona, Spain. He finished in 5 hours and 8 minutes, placing 13th out of 30 in his age group. He said; “spectacular swim, bike and run courses on a very tough day in 26c heat, over some big mountains. Been in Pamplona last few days ,absolute beautiful place! Think I need a rest now!”

Onto Sunday and you guys just keep going!

Let’s kick off with the Suckley Quarter Marathon, which saw Steph K run. She finished 01:09:30. Saffi was also back in action, running in the 2k trail race at the bottom end of the 12yrs to 15yrs age category and placed 2nd female/3rd overall.

Over in Ludlow, a small handful of Crofties took part in the Storm The Castle Duathlon. At the time of writing, results seem to have not yet been released. But, thanks to the wonderful world of social media, I can tell you that Jo Tilby, who competed in the team event, finished 2nd team overall.

Flora was busy on Sunday running the Cader Idris Fell Race. She said: “There are 267 runners in total taking part of the race. Ten runners didn’t finished the race, might be the heat was the reason. My time results = 2:32:01 finished in 173rd place and came 1st out of 6 in my age category. I’m quite pleased I managed to finish the race even I’m having difficulty coping with the heat climbing the mountain. Overall I did enjoyed it, I will do it again next time if I’m still fit!”

Rounding out the week is Kath who attended the ‘Run Rabbit Trail Festival’ held at Corby this weekend. “Saturday it started at 11am with a 5km x5 (on the hour every hour 11-3pm) Came 2nd female. 10km at 630pm came 4th female. Sunday 11am trail half marathon came 4th female. Then the quest is a mile run that’s open to the first females & 6 males that completed all three events so that meant I had to run a further mile events to try and win the golden carrots I didn’t win the carrot but came 3rd female. It was a hard but fun weekend and would recommend very well organised event!”

Well done all for another fantastic week. The upcoming training schedule will be live on our Facebook on Monday morning. In the meantime, don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
