It’s Sunday! And, I must apologise as I am writing this very late in the afternoon. It may be brief in places but you can still enjoy all the incredible things our runners have achieved this week. Once again, it’s been a busy one!
On Monday, we had another large Junior group take to Wigmore School’s playing field for their pyramid session around the football pitch. For our Seniors, on Tuesday it was over to Shobdon for Short Intervals with Kelly, before Sprints with Eric at Brampton Bryan on Thursday.

Parkrun Saturday proved to be a lot busier in comparison to the previous week. 10+ Crofties took part in Ludlow Parkrun, with Simon bringing it home for our club in 3rd. His time was 22:46. Oliver M joined Simon in the Top 10. Our first female this weekend was Naomi, and Holly came away with a new PB! Frank, Jamie and Guy volunteered. Over in Hereford, Sam J won with a time of 16:19. Oli C-S would record a new PB. Down at Aberdare Parkrun in South Wales, and after an early morning hike up Pen y Fan, Eric would finish 1st in a time of 16:40. Bronwyn also took part finishing 5th female in 24:42.

There was also a fantastic result for Flora who took part in the Llantysilio Mountain Race on Saturday. This was a 6.27 mile race with 2431 ft of total ascent. 82 runners took part, with Flora placing 62nd and first in her age category. Her time was 01:26:38.

Also on Saturday, two of our Junior runners headed down to West Sussex to compete in the ESAA National Cross-Country Championship where Liv would be representing Shropshire, while Saffi would be in Hereford and Worcester colours. Official results are yet to be published at the time of writing, but we do have some information on how our girls did. Max, Saf’s mum told us: “Tough race for Saf at 12 yrs old running against the best XC girls in England. The majority being two yrs older. She got hit in the stomach hard in the early part of the race but battled through and finished with a smile.” As for Liv, she seemed to have a really good race and is really happy with how she ran, not only helping Shropshire come away with a brilliant result but also helping herself regain her running confidence once again. Well done girls! Incredible effort!

We also want to give Tim J a shout out for spending his Saturday night playing the lab rat in Portsmouth on a 12 hour treadmill run for a sleep deprivation trial. He said on his Strava: “12 hour overnight treadmill run for sleep deprivation trial at Portsmouth School of Sport and Excercise Science. Slight problem making watch work with treadmill. The actual distance was 69km over 12 hours. Slightly disappointed with the distance due to unfamiliarity with treadmill running and the need to spend most of the night running up 4% incline to ease the pounding on the feet. Really pleased to finish strong with pace steadily increasing throughout the final 5 hours.“
On Sunday, Toby A ran the Fleet Half Marathon representing the Army. He finished in a time of 01:23:40.

Elsewhere, Henry took part in the Falmouth Half Marathon. He finished in 60th position with a time of 01:34:03.

Rounding out the racing week was the Junior XC Championships at Hereford Leisure Centre. After racing the day before in West Sussex, Saffi was back on the XC course taking part in the Under 13 race. She would finish in a time of 12:56 and 3rd FU13. She would also receive her medal for the Hereford and Borders XC Series where she finished 2nd U13 girl.

Well done all for another fantastic week. The upcoming training schedule will be live on our Facebook on Monday morning. In the meantime, don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
