Weekly CARC Update: 07/04/2025-13/04/2025

News

It’s Sunday and it’s time for that part of the week that you have all been waiting for – another Weekly CARC Update!

Monday was a beautiful sun-shiny evening for our Juniors as they took part in their weekly training session at Wigmore School. This week they did strides, Indian File and out and backs.

Keeping in with our Junior runners, we’d like to wish Saffi a massive well done for being accepted into the Halo Sport Foundation programme. Well done, Saf!

The weather stayed perfect for our Seniors also during their sessions on Tuesday and Thursday. This week Tuesday was at Wapley Woods near to Shobdon with Huw at the helm. His session was all about Long Intervals. On Thursday it was a trip to High Vinnalls with a sunset hill session at the viewpoint with Kelly.

Saturday would prove to be another busy one with Crofties taking part in numerous events such as Parkrun and trail/fell races.

Let’s kick the weekend off with Ludlow Parkrun where 7 Crofties took part. It would be Stuart, only one week after running the Mammathon, that would be the first Sky Blue vest to cross the line in 19th position. Naomi was our first lady. Frank, Jamie, Tim S, Tim W-H and Guy volunteered. There was another win for Sam J at Hereford Parkrun this week. Louise P also took part. And, keeping within the local vicinity, Steve and Joe L would run at Riverside Walk Parkrun in Hay, where Steve would finish 7th overall.

A few Crofties were also spotted taking part in some more “Parkrun Tourism.” In a field of nearly 700 runners, Eric would finish 2nd at Cardiff Parkrun. Bronwyn also ran this one, recording a new overall Parkrun PB and finishing 2nd in her age category. Elsewhere, Angus took part in Havant Parkrun, with Oliver T flying the CARC flag over in Australia at Cronulla Parkrun in Sydney. He finished in 5th position.

Our fell runners have also been out and about this weekend.

CARC Junior; Saffi, ran at Sugar Loaf Fell Race. A 4.8km race where she finished 1st in her age category.

Our other fell runners ran at Cribyn Fell Race. A 5.38 mile race with 2805 total ascent, as per Flora’s watch! Running alongside Flora for Croft was Gary and Nigel. Flora said: “It’s only a short distance but it’s very tough.I walk more than running, not runnable for me. Oh I have to make an excuse!”  Croft results:

Nigel Taylor – 1:12:55
Flora Gunner – 1:31:35
Gary Gunner – 2:00:58

Saturday was also the inaugural Race the Runway event – a 2k “fun run” and 10k race, hosted by Shobdon Aerodrome and supported by Croft Ambrey Running Club.

In the 2k, our own Saffi, after racing the Sugar Loaf on the same day, came home first in 08:25. In the 10k, Neil P was first Croft home in 5th place. Our first female was Ireland. There were top three age category positions for all CARC runners; Neil P, Roland, Rob, Paul, Angus, Carol, Ireland, Huw and Frank. Results can be found here.

On Sunday, a handful of Croft runners headed down to South Wales to compete in the Newport Marathon event. Saffi ran in the Future Challengers race, finishing 3rd female in a time of 05:50. In the 10k race, Eric finished in a time of 32:27 and was 10th overall out of over 2000 runners. Joe L and Kath ran in the Half Marathon event. Joe finished in 01:39:08, with Kath finishing in 01:39:39 and 5th in her age category. Finally, Andy ran the Marathon. His time was a rather amazing 03:06:39!

Well done all for another fantastic week. The upcoming training schedule will be live on our Facebook on Monday morning. In the meantime, don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
