Weekly CARC Update: 04/11/2024-11/11/2024

News

Saying goodbye to Sunday with a Weekly CARC Update post, in what’s been another fantastic week of running for our runners.

There was some good running from our Juniors on Monday evening, with Kelly and Eric working them hard with some strides and relays around Wigmore playing field. For our Seniors, it was over to Croft Wood on Tuesday with Sam H leading the short interval helm. On Thursday it was Eric’s turn, leading a Sprint session at Wigmore playing field before your typical Croft chaos ensued during the cool down. Long story short, squats quickly became a Morris Dancing tutorial… If you are a CARC member, you can find the video on our Member’s Only Facebook Page! Perhaps I’ll let the the wider world view it at some point. I should also apologise for the lack of training night pictures. It’s dark which says it all!

It was relatively quiet on the Parkrun front come Saturday. Probably due to the return of the Hereford and Borders Winter XC League on Sunday morning. Frank was the sole Croft runner taking part in Ludlow Parkrun. He finished in 32:44. Steph K, Jamie and Tim W-H volunteered. Elsewhere, at Aberystwyth Parkrun, Sam J would finish first, while recording a new course PB of 17:24.

Whereas some of our runners decided on meeting up for a social run and coffee around Pembridge and Eardisland on Saturday morning; others were out racing!

First up was Steph M who took part in the Mad Jacks 5 in Shrewsbury. This is a 5 mile (ish), multi-terrain race that includes wading through the Mud Jacks Pond just before the finish. It is also said to be very muddy! Steph’s chip time was 41:45, finishing first in her age category. She said on her Strava page: “Enjoyed that – bonus couple of deep mud areas as well as the pond!”

Also on Saturday, Eric was down in South Wales taking part in the second round of the Gwent XC League. We don’t have any official results at the time of writing, but according to his Strava time he finished the 5.8 mile race in 33:39.

Croft Junior, Saffi, has had a very busy week competing. Her school held XC trials in the week, running years 7-11 altogether. She would cross the finish line 1st female and 2nd overall. On Saturday morning, she headed over to Worcester to take part in the Sportshall League, competing against athletes from Kidderminster and Stourport, Worcester, Bromsgrove and Redditch and Hereford. She won the U13G 4 lap race and the 6 lap race by some considerable distance. She did the 8 lap parlauf with one of her team mates and they placed 1st and she ran in the U13G relay which they won too.

Sunday, and it was the day of the first race of the Hereford and Borders Winter XC League. We had a large cohort of Crofties turn up to represent our little running club, all playing their part as we attempt to bring home the trophy once again! This 10k (and a bit) race took place at an all too familiar Bearwood in Pembridge, hosted by our friends at Wye Valley Runners, and included two laps of multi terrain and slight undulation. Two of our younger runners would run only one lap of the course in their U17 race. But it had to be our own Sam J who ran a fantastic 36:19 to finish in 1st position, with Gareth also finishing in the top 5. Our first female was Bella, who also finished a fantastic 3rd in her age category. As for the team standings, our mens team, made up of Sam, Gareth, Andy and Simon, would finish 1st. We also had some of our younger runners taking part in the Junior races on this XC Sunday. Saffi would run in the U13 race, finishing 5th overall and 2nd female. Her time was 14:38. In the U11 race, Taite and Elsie were running for Croft. Taite would finish 6th in 10:58, with Elsie in 16th with a time of 12:33. Owen M also took part but pulled out due to injury. Regardless, an amazing job done by all of our Croft youngsters!

More XC pictures will be uploaded to both the public and member Facebook pages in the coming days!

Well done all on such a busy week! Please remember that our upcoming training sessions will be available to view on our Facebook page every MONDAY MORNING. In the meantime, don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
