With the dry sunny weather continuing this week lots of folk have been out and about – especially parkrunning.
Juniors kicked it off on Monday with a group of 23…this section of the club has really put on a growth spurt!
Tuesday the seniors trained at Wigmore with Mark leading a session focussed on long intervals….spookily there were 23 seniors training also.
Wednesday was track day. Couriers have added some Sunday sessions that we’re invited to. Check out Sunday’s Newsletter for the dates and times.
Thursday saw Huw leading a group of 18 seniors on the hills at Croft. It was a lovely evening but sadly probably the last time we’ll be training on the hills in the sunshine. Thank you Bircher – we’ll see you in all your glory again next year.
It was a busy Parkrun Saturday with runners participating at 10 different locations and there were quite a few PBs. The biggest contingent was at event #460 at Mortimer Forest with 17 runners and it was another PB for Karen Coffey with 34:32. Adrian and Karen were both volunteering together with Neil Taylor and Tim Symonds.
Janet Hill was at Henley Wood , Oswestry running 33:44. Dave Millichap was the sole sky blue runner at Queenswood but clocked up a PB in 27:18. Sam and Lisa Juson were both volunteering. Theresa Jones was at Coldham Common, Cambridge running 35:12. Ben Rees was at Hereford and clocked a new PB of 22:50. Jamie Symonds was at Worcester Pitchcroft where he ran a PB in 23:01. Sally Toye was at Burgess parkrun in London finishing in 33:19. Eric and Bronwyn were at Newtown finishing 19:55 and 26:56 – I think Eric finished 10th which is super speedy given I think he was pushing Evan in the buggy! Bryan Davies ran 49:10 at Newent.

Angus Kirby wasn’t happy with just doing Brockwell Park, Herne Hill parkrun on Saturday morning but then headed to the 2026 Swim Serpentine event – well done Angus, its great to see your recovery going so well.

On Sunday morning a small contingent from the club ran a couple of laps of the Hereford 24 Hour Run for Homelessness. This event ran from Saturday 19th September to Sunday 20th September with about 35 laps been completed. Each lap was 5km. The Croft Ambrey runners joined others to create a group of 33, setting off at 10.30am to do their ‘official’ lap. Some Crofties decided that one lap wasn’t enough so went out for a second!
Huw and Liza both added to their miles by doing some interval training at the first of the Sunday Hereford Track sessions hosted by Couriers before heading to the 24hr Run.

Eric was racing the Swansea 10k on Sunday and zipped around in 32:36 finishing 10th. Well done Eric

Further afield Cat Wain Hobson was competing as a GB skyrunner at the Skyrunning Ultra World Championships in La Gomera, Tenerife. By all accounts this is a very competitive event and the course was described as “one of the most demanding routes ever used in a world level sky running event. It is a volcanic island course built around steep gradients, humid cloud-forest, exposed ridgelines and long technical climbs.”. Cat was expecting to the run the Sky Race which is a 29km race (with 1,900m elevation) but with only 3 day’s notice the GB team manager asked her to run the ultra distance which is 63km distance (with 4,000m elevation). Despite not training at this longer distance Cat did take on the challenge and amazingly finished in a time of 11:58:59 – she was 27 out of 28 runners in her class with one DNF. It’s maybe not the race or result Cat was wanting but I think it’s an incredible achievement she should be proud of. The next World Championship is in 2 years time so hopefully Cat will be there.
