Another week and another busy one for Croft Members.
The juniors are on their summer break so Mondays see them taking a rest, but not the committee! Monday saw a very productive committee meeting – keeping those wheels turning behind the scenes to make Croft Ambrey Running Club the success that it is!
Tuesday training was at High Vinnalls this week – and it was a bit of a relief from all the dry, dusting running the summer of 2025 has brought as the days rain brought the unusual element of mud! There were some muddy legs after Kelly’s hill session comprimising warm up and strides, 5x 1min, 5x45s, 5x 30s and a cool down – did the muddier legs put in more effort? Not my place to say!
Thursdays training session was back to the sunny evenings we are more used to. Clare was leading the long interval session with 4 minute efforts, 2 minute recovery – but it was the introduction of plyometrics which was the highlight of the session. Who knew a group of runners could have so much fun with some hula hoops, ladders and hurdles?

On Wednesday evening, Flora and Saffi took part in the Middleton Hill race – 1.77miles and 1411ft ascent. Flora described it as ‘a very short brutal distance race. The start going up is quite narrow, no chance of overtaking and part of going down the hill was very slippery’. One of the runners broke their ankle – lets hope they make a good recovery. Flora was second in her age category in 39.04 and Saffi first in hers in 37.51.

Saturday morning is parkrun morning and there was a good turnout of Croft Runners at Ludlow parkrun this week. First Croft runner accross the line was Steve P in third place in 21.17, next Croftie home was Liza in 26.31 which saw her get her pb age grade rating at 73.16%, followed not too far behind by Jamie in 27.04.

Great finishing from Rob, Oli, Guy, Huw, Tim J, Tori, Theresa and Anna too. It is not just about the runners at Parkrun though, the volunteers work to make it a success so a big shout-out to Clare, Roland and Ingrid who were there with their hi vis vests making it all possalbe.

The parkrun tourists were out in strength too. Eric and Bron continue their Scottish adventure in Holyrood – a hilly route around Arthurs seat in Edinburgh saw Eric getting mile PB on the fast downhill finish. A bit different from Ludlow parkrun with a total of 625 runners. Simon was running with his family at Tefi Marches parkrun, having a great parkrun to finish in 10th place in 20.56. Angus was in Ukfield for his parkrun. Not sure what the crocodile had to do with anything, but he finished in 27.29.

Kath was being a tourist, but this time at Gisburn Forest Half in Lancashire. She really enjoyed it and recommends it to anyone up that way.

Flora, Gary and Saffi took place in Llanthony Show race, 3.77 miles, 1119ft of ascent. All three of them were first finishers in their age groups out of a field of 62.
