CARC Championship Update – 24 Sept 2023

News

Here is a quick round up of the current state of  play in our club championship after 7 races.  With a requirement to run 6 races to qualify it is quite hard to discern who holds the advantage in many of the categories. Points are awarded for your age category Croft position in each qualifying race – first Croft Runner 1 point, 2nd 2 points, third 3 points. Your lowest 6 scores count and the runner with the lowest score wins.

There is still plenty to race for over the final 3 events.

Senior male      Even after his mid season break due to injury Eric has completed the required 6 events and built up an unassailable lead. There are 2 other runners that could register a score.  George Thomas has already completed 5 events and appears to be ahead but a late surge by Sam Juson could see him steal second place if he scores well on all of the remaining 3 races.

Male Vet 40      This is a 2 horse race,  Howard Verran currently holds the advantage having completed 6 races but Steve Partridge has registered 4 first places in the category. It will be close if Steve completes 2 out of the next 3 races.

Male Vet 50      After registering good results in the opening 4 races David Millichap has missed the last 3 events.

This has allowed Paul Parker to close the gap, both runners need to perform well over the last few races to seal  the win. If they falter Roland Preece is the only other runner that can complete the required number of races.

Male Vet 60      The older they get the keener they get, this is the most hotly contested Male category and it is really close at the front between Huw Williams and Guy Whitmarsh.

Mike Hayward and Frank Luscott are both poised to gain places if the front runners hesitate.

Senior Female   Only the 2 Preece sisters can now complete the 6 races required.  Thea holds the advantage, but after a recent string of second places Bronwyn is not far behind.

Female Vet 35  Hayley Colebatch and Jo Tilby both need to finish 2 out of the remaining 3 races to register a score. Jo is currently ahead but this could be a very close result.

Female Vet 45  Sam Harper and Clare Preece lead the way in this category, Sam has the advantage on points but needs to register 2 more scores to qualify whereas Clare has already completed 5 out of 6 races.

Both Clare Verran and Theresa Jones can still register a score in this category, Clare appears to be improving rapidly and could just take 3rd place if she runs all of the remaining 3 races.

Female Vet  55 Jo Marriot. Liza Austin and Steph King can all still register a score in this category.

Both Jo and Liza need to score well in all 3 of the remaining races to secure first place, whilst Steph has already completed  4 qualifiers and could surprise us if the 2 leaders don’t deliver good results in all of the remaining rounds.

Summary

The last 3 rounds are:

Any Ludlow parkrun in October.
Elan Valley 10 Mile        23/11/203
