Wye Valley Hereford 10k

Race Reports

Croft Ambrey runners that managed to rouse themselves from their drink-sodden stupor on New Year’s Day mainly favoured the ‘Morning After’ but a handful of us chose the popular Wye Valley New Year’s Day 10k instead. Expecting a small group of fanatics I was surprised to find myself in a large field of 261 runners taking the ultimate hangover cure. Being a 10k the pace was fast and furious from the start with never a chance to settle into the comfort zone. The course is quite undulating, with 207 feet ascent; Broomy Hill provides the stiffest test, around the 6k mark. I was pleased to finish 6/17 MV55 and 82/261 overall in a time of 46:20, which was at the top end of my expectations. Dave Rouse senior and Rob Wood, both MV60 and looking well on it, finished in 54:36 and 58:57 respectively. Thanks to Wye Valley for a friendly and well organised event.
