Hope Valley

Race Reports
With the cancellation of Fforest Fields Simon, Mark & Kelly thought it would be a good idea to race the Hope Valley run, a 8.5 mile multi terrain race in Woolhope. The weather was obviously atrocious, non stop heavy rain but with the cancelled league fixture there were more runners than normal for this, mainly from Couriers and Wye Valley.
The first couple of miles was on road then off road and mud but surprisingly conditions good underfoot as most of off road was on forest trails; plenty of climbing and descents but nothing harsh. Mark & Matt James led and for 4 miles were chatting away like they were in the  pub only for Mark to break Matt for 2.5 miles only to be caught with 2 miles to go. Simon started off steady but paced well to move through the field to 4th place at 4 miles then ran remaining 4.5 solo. Kelly had another fine performance, winning as always !
Overall it’s a great race, good mixed terrain course but annoyingly no prizes for age groups so for us oldies like me a big shame but at least Croft took all the honours and good form hopefully going into winter XC league.
