Weekly CARC Update: 29/01/2024-04/02/2024

Welcome to February and welcome to this week’s Weekly CARC Update.

Starting with a big well done to our Junior runners for completing another fantastic training session on Monday at Wigmore School. Every week we look forward to seeing how much they have progressed.

On Tuesday and Thursday, our Senior runners trained at Shobdon Orchards and High Vinnalls, respectively. Sam took Tuesday’s session, sprinting around the orchards, whereas Thursday was led by Tim, taking our runners on an away day social run around Mortimer Forest.

On Wednesday evening, a small group of Crofties joined our friends at Hereford Couriers for a track session at Hereford Leisure Centre that was all about speed! We’d like to give everyone at Couriers a big thank you for the invite, and we look forward to joining you all again very soon!

On Saturday, Crofties took part in a range of Parkruns from Herefordshire, Shropshire and Powys as well as all the way in Cambridgeshire! At Ludlow, it was a second place finish for Toby with Neil, Owen S and Liza also in the top ten. Liza was first lady, while Lou P recorded a new PB. At Riverside Walk, Sam J and Eric came home to finish in 1st and 2nd respectively. Congratulations to Sam for achieving the new course record, previously set by Eric who also ran a new PB. This is seemingly becoming a popular Parkrun for our runners with 7 of them making the trip over to Hay-on-Wye! Jo M was the sole Croft runner running at Hereford Parkrun, while Reachel was in Cambridgeshire, posting a new PB at the Pocket Parkrun! Great job all!

Saturday was also the 10th anniversary run of the Hatterrall Hill Fell Races, starting at The Old Pandy Inn in Herefordshire. All the way back in 2014, a small group of Croft runners took on this inaugural race. And, although in 2024, our numbers were a little off from 2014, we still had some Sky Blue representation out on the course. Well done to Tim J, Flora and Gary for taking part. (Also, well done to Flora and Gary for taking part in the Ras Tarrenhendre Fell Race last weekend!)

A couple of our Junior runners have also been busy this weekend, representing their school at cross country in Shropshire. Oliver and Owen M ran the 5k race finishing in 38th and 27th respectively, with Oliver describing the race as “rapid.” Amazing job, lads!

Sunday was quiet with Ali B leading a group across the Shropshire Hills to recce the last section of the Mammothon route. 14 Crofties (plus Steph and Mike’s dog Barry) ran and walked 11 miles up hill and down dale to finish at The Discovery Centre in Craven Arms for a well deserved spot of lunch. A perfect way to spend a Sunday we think.

And, that’s it for this week. Please remember that our upcoming training sessions will be available to view on our Facebook page every Sunday evening. In the meantime, don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
