Weekly CARC Update: 28/04/2025-04/05/2025

News

It’s been a tale of two halves for Croft runners this week. For some, it’s been a week of rest after their excellent Marathon endeavours last weekend. For others, it’s been a normal week of training, racing and social running. Shall we see what they have been up to?

Let’s start this week with our Junior runners who were back this week after their couple of weeks off for Easter. Summer is well and truly here for our young runners with the running track on the Wigmore School field now back for a few months, varying up their training a bit!

CARC Junior; Saffi has also been busy once again. Last Sunday, she was on the track for the Gloucester AC Spring Open and ran the 1500m. A PB of 5:23 and another UK ranking. She matched that time in Aberdare yesterday in the Youth Development League and ran a PB in the 200 metres.

As for our Seniors, it was a hill session on Bircher Common with Sam on Tuesday, with Huw’s long intervals at High Vinnalls on Thursday.

It was a sunny and warm Parkrun Saturday. At Ludlow 6 Crofties took part with Toby being first Croftie across the line in 25:02. Louise R was our first female. We had no runners in Hereford this week, but Sam J did volunteer. Over in Builth at Groe Parkrun, Eric paced Liv to a new Parkrun PB of 22:30. Mike H was partaking in some more Parkrun tourism this weekend, running in the Mole Valley Parkrun in the Surrey Hills. He said it could’ve been described as “nice scenery, hilly and very warm!”

Less than one week after completing London Marathon, Emma J took on The HOWUM – a 30 mile ULTRA MARATHON! Fellow Croftie; Howard, joined her for the experience. She said on Social Media: “As if I’ve just completed my first 30 mile ultra marathon 6 days post London Marathon. @/pegasusultrarunning what an amazing experience & event The HOWUM was amazing, amazing views, check points incredible with cake, the medal gorgeous & the 4,000 elevation was hard but amazing coming down. what an event & thank you Howard for stepping in when my lovely friend couldn’t make it.“ We don’t have an official time for the pair as of yet, but they both finished at around the 8 hour mark! Incredible day out for both!

Our Flora was also busy on Saturday taking part in the Cwmdu Fell Race. This race was recorded in her watch as 9.97 miles with 2986ft of total ascent. Flora finished in 24th position, with a time of 02:12:59. She also finished 1st in her age category.

It was a sunny Sunday evening for Eric, also marathon fresh, who ran at the Cardiff 5k, finishing in an incredible 15:53 and 80th out of over 2,000 entrants.

Rounding out the week was Louise P who was in Colorado, USA taking part in the Colorado Marathon. As Colorado is at least 6 hours behind us, we don’t yet have any official times so stay tuned to our Facebook page!

Well done all for another fantastic week. The upcoming training schedule will be live on our Facebook on Monday morning. In the meantime, don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
