Although there was a drought declared in the West Midlands there was no shortage of running and racing this week. Conditions were mostly a bit cooler (mid to low 20s C) and we all got excited by a few drops of rain.
The juniors kicked the week off with a fun session practising movement, agility and control (run, jump and throw) along a 100m course. They competed in pairs and I think they thoroughly enjoyed it. The session finished with a round of dishes and domes (instead of bulldogs) which really bought a range of tactics to play. On Tuesday, Mark led the seniors for a sprint session at Wigmore. Liza was the sole represent at the track for a session led by Hereford Couriers. On Thursday Sam led a session at Lower Newton Farm the home of Tom and Neil Powell and their new venture ‘The Padel Shed’. The evening began with a farm run followed by a meet up in ‘The Padel Shed’ and a chance to give padel a go. By all accounts it was a great evening and lots of folk with be signing up for padel (I highly recommend starting with the Introduction to Padel session).
On Wednesday evening Flora and Saffi did the Middleton Fell Race. In Flora’s words it was a “great race,it’s very short distance less miles than the park run but brutal” Flora recorded a distance 2.2 miles and 1322 total ascent. There were 70 runners and Saffi ran as a senior. Both had great results.
Saffi= 00:34:42 finished in 35th place overall and came 1st in U16G
Flora = 00:42:23 finished in 60th place overall and only runner in 60-64 age category.
Clun Canter Championship Race was on Friday evening. 23 Sky Blues entered this multi terrain race across the hills, fields and woods around Clun. A race report and all the finishing times can be found here but a big shout out to Erin Walmsley, one of our juniors who won the U18 girls cup and Eric came in third overall.
Saturday morning was Parkrun day. There were 24 Crofties out Parkrunning on Saturday with 6 volunteering at Ludlow also. Running at Ludlow were Steve Partridge, Oliver Marsh, Neil Taylor, Jamie Symonds, Rob Martin, Peter High, Lisa Gray, Adrian Coffey, Kerry Martin and Karen Coffey – running a new Ludlow PB of 35:32. Liza A, Oli C-S, Frank L, Guy W and Paul L. were all helping out as was Jamis S who was up early setting the course. Only Sam Juson and Joe Lynch were running at Hereford. At Queenswood, Scott Jones (Theresa’s son) led in the runners in 19:14, others completing the course were Mike Bending, Gary Gunner, Anna Bromley and Theresa Jones. Further afield Simon Norwood ran with his children at Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve and Eric Apperley was at Y Promenad Aberhonddu (Brecon).
Travelling further into Wales, Ali Benwell, Paul and Michelle Parker, Howard and Claire Verran were tackling Cybi Coastal Marathon around Anglesey and completed the tough course in the following times (chip timing). Well done team.

Angus is continuing his fantastic recovery with Leonardslee Gardens 10k, near Horsham, Sussex. In his words it was ‘two laps in nice steady 1hr 24 mins.
Saffi was also in action on Saturday winning the U16G junior fell race at Llanthony.
