Welcome all to this week’s Weekly CARC Update! It’s been another run-tastic week for Croft runners. Shall we recap?
Starting with our Senior training this week, as our lovely Juniors got to enjoy their Bank Holiday Monday off.
On Tuesday we headed up to Shobdon Arches for a Short Interval session with Sam H at the helm. Our runners also got to see the new Arches Information Boards that have recently been put up. Our little running club was a big part of the process in renewing these boards with Wendy designing the art work and Dawn sorting out the framing. What a lovely little Croft Ambrey gesture!

Thursday’s session was with Eric at Wigmore School with a sole focus on Sprinting around the athletic’s track!

Parkrun Saturday, and once again our runners would find themselves taking part in Parkrun events near and far! Ten Crofties ran at Ludlow this weekend, with Simon and Grant bringing it home for us in 8th and 9th position – 22:37 & 23:46, respectively. Saffi was the sole Croft runner at Hereford Parkrun this weekend. She was 3rd female finishing in 22:25. Heading up north to Leeds, and Oliver and Owen M ran at Cross Flatts Parkrun. Oliver finished in 15th with a time of 23:02. Owen finished just behind him in 16th, with a brand new Parkrun PB – 23:19. Down to South Wales where Bron and Eric ran at Aberfields Parkrun in Nant-Y-Moel. After an intense battle with a dog (and an owner), Eric would be the one to cross the line in 1st position. His time was 17:35. Bron, with her best Parkrun finishing position to date, finished in 10th position and 2nd female overall. Her time was 24:48. Sue and Amy P ran at Shrewsbury Parkrun. Suzanne finished in 28:36 and Amy in 29:26. Finally, Angus was over in Dublin, Ireland taking on Porch Field Parkrun. He finished in 26th position with a time of 26:16.

Saturday also saw Sam M take part in the Rab Scafell Sky Race in the Lake District. This is a 40km, 2800m ascent race that is part of the Skyrunning Series! Sam finished in 05:23:39 and finished 1st in his age category. We’d also like to give a shout out to Tim W-H’s daughter; Cat, who also took part. She finished in 6hrs and 47 mins and was first in her age category by 41 minutes! We’re yet to see any pictures of Sam, but Tim has kindly shared this one of Cat.

Continuing up in the Lake District, 5 Crofties took part in the Lake District Running Festival! CARC Chairman; Huw, was one of our runners who took part and sent these words to us from the beautiful lakes: “The OMM was a big contrast to last year when we were blessed by clear blue skies. The mists descended, the rain fell and the wind swirled it all around. Stuart and Liza took it in their strides and achieved a very respectable score of 380 points after being out on the hills for six and a half hours on the first day. Huw cut his endeavours short at 4 and a half hours with 170 points. Day 2 was proving equally challenging. Mike Hayward opted for the 10k trail run and Jane for the 5k. It’s all a part of the lakedistrictrunningfestival.com if anyone fancies it next year. Great fun despite the weather this year.” Liza also said: “We (Liza and Stuart) were 3rd mixed pair at OMM event this weekend. 7 hr cut off sat and 5 hr sun. Did 29 miles orienteering over the 2 days in wind and rain and glimpses of sun!”

Onto Sunday and Nigel T, alongside daughter; Holly, ran at the RunThrough Richmond Park Half Marathon in South London. Results are yet to be released, at the time of writing.

Rounding out the week is Jo M, Ali B, Paul P and Howard, who all, off their own backs, spent Saturday night/Sunday morning training for the Epona 100. Yes, that’s right, they ran over 33 miles, overnight, from Bishop’s Castle to Ludlow. The small group of Crofties managed to complete this in around 9 hours!

Well done all for another fantastic week. The upcoming training schedule will be live on our Facebook on Monday morning. In the meantime, don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
