Weekly CARC Update: 23/10/23 – 29/10/23

News

Welcome to your weekly CARC update, detailing what our club members have been up to this week.

Training on Tuesday was held by Sam along the entrance drive to Croft Castle. With one of the best turnout’s that we’ve seen at training in a long time, everyone wasn’t afraid to push themselves that little bit further with the numerous hill intervals that were the focus of the session. On Thursday, it was back to Shobdon, with Huw leading the way. Our runners focused on 1km intervals at different paces, including half-marathon, 10k and 5k. However, some may have been taking it easy in preparation for the upcoming Marathon Eryri.

It’s almost as if we blinked and Parkrun Saturday was back again. This weekend was the last Ludlow Parkrun that Crofties could take part in to record a time for the Inter-Club Championship, and, to be fair, there was a good turnout of Sky Blues. That doesn’t include the visiting running club, also in the same colour! Some of our faster runners were away racing elsewhere, and others were taking an easy weekend. But still, two Croft runners appeared in the top ten, four in the top twenty. Hayley C and Crispin also managed to put in new PBs.

As mentioned above, a small group of our runners headed up to North Wales for the Marathon Eryri (Snowdon Marathon) this Saturday. A superb job by all of them, in what is not an easy race. Sam J crossed the line as first Croftie in an incredible 51st place, with a time of just over 3 hours. Joe, Paul, Emily and Alison also completed the grueling 26 miles.

The last Sunday of October meant that there were a few Halloween themed races taking place around the county.

First up was the Halloween 5k at Hereford Racecourse, hosted by Ready Set Go Timing. Although only 24 people took part in this race, two of our own runners – Sue and Amy P, made an appearance. Amy even ran it in Halloween attire. Sue finished in 12th (1st in her age category) and Amy in 14th.

Continuing the Halloween theme, we also has one or two Sky Blues running from the “Beast” at the Bockleton Beast. However, at the time of writing, official results were unavailable.

So, that’s another week over with.  We look forward to what the next week will bring. Don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
