Weekly CARC Update – 22/09/25-28/09/25

News

Another week comes to a close, which means it is time for another dose of your Weekly CARC Update! It’s been another special week in which we came together with the wider Parkrun community to celebrate and remember Tom. There are also plenty of races and trianing sessions for us to talk about so let’s get underway!

Our Juniors worked their socks off on Monday, taking part in a sprint session before getting to play their favourite game; Bulldogs, for the first time in a couple of weeks. As for our Seniors, Tuesday also brought them a Sprint session at Wigmore School. This was coached by Emma, before Tim took over on Thursday at High Vinnalls for some Tempo Runs. Pictures from training are few and far between at the moment as I haven’t been going to many sessions. I know it’s getting difficult with the darker evenings, but I would be more than grateful if someone could snap a pic or two at sessions where I’m not present!

Croft Junior; Saffi, was running in Exeter on Friday night running an 11:07 PB in the 3000m.

It looks as if it’s been quiet for other mid-week racing this week, so let’s move onto Parkrun!

This weekend we teamed up with Ludlow Parkrun to bring runners, walkers and everyone else an opportunity to take part in Parkrun for Tom. Participants were asked in advanced to wear Sky Blue and bring some cash to donate to the Midlands Air Ambulance charity bucket that we had on hand! Over 140 people took part, making it one of the more busiest Parkrun Saturdays Ludlow has seen. Clare, once again, took on the role of Race Director, doing an excellent job at explaining to runners as to why we were here. Eric, Mike B (x2), Gemma, Tori, Kath, Mike H, Angus, Seb, Jamie, Michelle S, Tim S, Tim W-H, Rob W and Sue W joined her on the volunteering team! As for our runners, it would be Sam J taking the win, with Gareth in 3rd. Mia was first female in 11th and Jo T second female in 16th, both recording new PBs! There were also PBs for Craig, Ted, Archie and Keli! And, as for the donations, people were VERY generous with just under £500 being raised! Amazing by all!

Also on Saturday, Flora took part in the Carlam Ceiriog Canter Fell race in Llangollen. This race was just over 7 miles, with nearly 1,400 feet of ascent. Official results are yet to be released, but Flora has told us that she finished 1st in her age category!

Joe L has been giving an Ultra a go up in the Lake District this weekend, running the 13 Valley’s Ultra. After starting at 6pm on Friday evening, Joe gave it his all, completing over 24 hours of the 100 miles race, before having to retire on medical grounds.

Moving onto Sunday and it was inter-club championship day with September’s race taking place at the Forest of Dean Autumn Half Marathon in the Forest of Dean. Nigel was first Croft runner across the line, Kath was our first female. Tim J has already updated the current Club Championship standings, so Croft runners, feel free to check them out on the Members Facebook Page or on the website. Full CARC results – I do apologise if anyone is missing from these results but the website was extremely difficult to navigate and this is the Croft list they gave me!:

Elsewhere, back in Herefordshire, 6 Sky Blues took part in this year’s edition of the Credenhill Canter. Sam J would easily take the win, finishing ahead by well over a minute. Natalie was our first female, finishing 4th female overall. There were top 3 age category placements for Miles and Natalie. Full CARC results:

Sam Juson – 37:53 – 1st Overall
Miles Davis – 50:52 – 3rd MV50
Natalie Covill – 55:53 – 2nd FV50
Mike Hayward – 01:12:00
Suzanne Field – 01:48:54
Ali Davies – 01:48:54

Rounding out this week is Saffi, who was racing again come Sunday. This time she was in Winchester, where she ran her first sub-5 minute in the 1500m while placing 1st U15G. She then followed this up with another PB in 200m and finishing 1st in her heat.

Well done all! Please remember that if you would like your race and achievements included in the weekly report, please get them to me (Bronwyn) by 6pm at the latest. Any that come in after, I cannot promise they will be included. The upcoming training schedule will be live on our Facebook on Monday morning. In the meantime, don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).
