Bronwyn is away this week so it’s my turn to write the weekly update, so all mistakes and omissions are on me!
It has been another busy week for CARC members with lots managing to fit some runs in around their holidays.
Tuesday night saw the penultimate handicap series race on Bircher Common. It was great to have Mike back for this race to start us off after he wasn’t well enough to come along to the previous run. A big welcome to some new faces who were running this tough little route for the first time – Mark Hasty, Henry Eastman, Molly Bashford, Jayne Hayward and Saffi. Running conditions must have been good because we saw some course records broken – Sam Juson took the all time route record by over a minute in 20.19. Guy took 11.43 off the MV80 record finishing in 35.45, Liza shaved 6 seconds off the FV60 record and Saffi took 33 seconds off the junior record of the single lap course – taking the record in 16.51.

Wednesday evening was the Herefordshire AA 5k track race. Well done to Sam, Gareth and Eric for coming in 2,3 and 4!

Reachel Kenny knocked a chunk off her Parkrun PB at Newtown parkrun on saturday – a 1min22 second improvement to finish in 32.26. Jo Marriott was running at Hereford parkrun and shaved four seconds off her PB to finish in a time of 22.24.
After his recent health problems, it was great to see Tim Wayne-Hobson back at Ludlow Parkrun!

Some of our runners have been trying to keep up their parkrun habits while they are away but it seems that it hasn’t reached everywhere yet, so they are coming up with their own routes! Grant went for a run in Madeira and Neil in Cairnes and Simon in Dinas head coastal path.
I wonder if we are try to see how many countries can we get a Croft vest to in a year?

Gary and Flora have been out fell running around Wales. Both are running really well with Gary winning his age category at Rhydycroesau fell race last Sunday, 5.23 miles and 5.15 total ascent. Gary finished in 53.49 and Flora 51.43 – coming in third lady.

Last Sunday also saw a group of Crofties out racing the train in mid wales. Huw has written a fantastic race report on it so I don’t have much to add but take a look by following this link.

Saffi has had another busy week. On Sunday she ran at the Worcester Festival 2k – finishing first female/fourth in a field of 110 runners. On Friday she had the opportunity to run with Darren Blanks who is doing a Lands end to John O Groats run. Darren is an army veteran and partially sighted and deaf in one ear. She loved running with him as he finished his Chepstow to Hereford leg. Then on Friday she ran 2.7miles at Cilycwm – second female.

Louise Phillips took part in the Innovate Pennine Trial Marathon on Saturday – and I quote “absolutely loved it! A fantastic circular route with bits of Pennine Way, Pennine Bridleway and a couple of other trails thrown in. The sun even came out eventually. Quite tough in places (I didn’t expect anything less, it’s a pretty lumpy part of the world!) lots of amazing runnable gnarly sections and a super steep sting in the tale to the finish line. A perfect trail marathon (apart from it being 27 miles!”)
Stu and Liza have run nearly 40 miles in two days over the weekend along the Grand Union Canal raising awareness and money for the Canal and River Trust. If you would like to donate, please head to their just giving page

Anna Bromley is planning on running the length of the Hereford Trail in sections on Sunday mornings. She was joined this morning by a group of Croft runners, heading 13 miles from Kinsham to Leintwardine. Followed by a few homemade scones thanks to Thersa – they had a great time!
Enjoy what is left of the bank holiday weekend everyone.
