Weekly CARC Update: 06/11/23 – 12/11/23

News

Welcome to your weekly CARC update, detailing what our club members have been up to this week.

Does anyone else feel as if the weeks are currently racing by? Time needs to slow, just a bit.

The sky was clear and the stars shone down during Tuesday’s training session at Shobdon Woods. Once Sam had gotten everyone up the long, slog of a hill to the crossroads, the session began, with a focus on hill intervals and some added hill paarlaufs. On Thursday it was Eric’s turn to lead, with a short interval session around the woods on our home turf – Croft. A good turn out for both sessions as we prepared for the upcoming XC race. You can read about that further on.

There is no denying that Saturday’s weather was perfect for Parkrun. After a planned Parkrun away day was halted by the cancellation of the Riverside Walk Parkrun in Hay, some of our runners went to the likes of Ludlow and Hereford instead. In Ludlow, Eric finished in 1st place while taking it steady in preparation for tomorrow’s XC. Meanwhile, Sam J finished 3rd at Hereford.

Sunday was Cross-Country day and it was our turn to host! Despite it being extremely wet and extremely cold, over 200 runners from all over Herefordshire (and beyond) turned out to battle the hills and mud of Croft Wood and Bircher Common. There was a close battle for 1st and 2nd between our own runners, Eric and Sam, with Eric taking the win and Sam settling for 2nd. In the Under-17 race, Oliver and Jamie finished in 3rd and 4th, respectively. There were also some good results for our junior runners with Owen M and Owen S both finishing in the top ten in the Under-15 race. Fantastic effort by all. Make sure to check out the Facebook page for pictures!

We’d also like to thank Theresa and her amazing team of volunteers for helping to put on the XC race. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to go ahead with events like these. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

So, that’s another week over with.  We look forward to what the next week will bring. Don’t forget, we’re always on the look out for your race reports for the website, so get posting them on Facebook or send them to either Sam H, Huw or myself (Bronwyn).

  1. I always enjoy reading your weekly updates, Bron. Together with all the other information and write ups its all such a pleasure to read. I have to mention Theresa and her amazing group of marshalls and volunteers. 10/10 Croft Ambrey you certainly didn’t let the weather dampen your spirits. what would a cross country race be without mud anyway? Keep up the good work.
