Goodbye October, Hello November.
A small group of 7 juniors kicked off the week under the direction of Mark with Tori and Suzanne Jones in support. With the clocks having gone back at the weekend this was the first session in the dark with head torches but still very mild weather at 15C. With an eye to the first XC race on 8 November they worked on maintaining a pace over a distance of between 400 and 600m.
16 seniors kicked off their week working on long intervals at Shobdon Woods under Huw’s direction.
Just 4 crofties joined Wednesday night training at the track in Hereford for a session led by Wye Valley. They focussed on 400m and 800m reps with 200m recovery between each.
It was the seniors turn to be at Wigmore on Thursday night for a sprint session led by Kelly.
On Friday 18 of us headed to Govilon Outdoor Centre, just south of Abergavenny for the club’s annual winter training camp. It was a fantastic weekend of running, some walking and biking, stretching, circuits, navigation, eating (a bit of drinking!), competitive game playing, lots of laughs and general fun. Even the weather played its part with not a drop of rain all weekend. A massive thanks to Liza, Kelly and Nina who did all the heavy lifting organising and leading for such a great weekend. A full report on the weekend will be posted to the website soon with lots more photos….

On Saturday morning over 40 from the club were running or volunteering at Parkrun which is pretty amazing and getting on for 1 in 3 in the club. The biggest contingent running was at Lllanfoist Crossing which is only about a mile from the winter training camp and Kelly B. ran a PB (22:18). There was a good club representation at Mortimer Forest with Naomi Perkins first lady home, Tony Howsam running a PB (25:37) and with Gary G and Suzanne J marshalling, Jamie S on close down duties and Karen C. as volunteer coordinator. There were four at Hereford with Sue Wood running a PB (27:36). Lisa Ryan (28:24) was at Withernsea Promenade. Angus Kirby (38:31) is continuing his parkrun travels and was at North Farm on the South Downs at only the fourth running of this PR. Scott Jones (17:59) was third home at Coldham Common, Cambridge. Peter High (29:11) was at Hull. Jonny F. (one of our juniors) was sole representative at Queenswood, zipping round in 24:14.
Across the board 6 of our runners had an age grading over 70% (Liza A (77:95), Tori D (71:32), Steph K (74:09), Sam J (77.17), Jo M (76.86) and Scott Jones (71:73) and Sue W took it to another level with a fantastic age grading of 80:68%
Well done all runners and volunteers.

A little later on Saturday five sky blues were running the Elan Valley 10 mile race. It looks like a fantastic day for racing and great results. Well done everyone.
Miles Davis 1:10:38 1st MV55
Martin Rouse 1:23:18
Louise Phillips 1:31:05
Hayley Colebatch 1:36:37
Lisa Gray 1:38:46

On Sunday Eric Apperley was back racing the Richard Burton 10km race at Cwmafan in the valley above Port Talbot. In Eric’s words “Richard Burton 10km 34.21 17th. The best 10km race on the calendar and although immediately flowing the race I felt flat and disappointed that I got in my head and raced poorly I still did good. After the injury at the end of Oswestry 10km the goal was to get back and race this one. The body was able to race not to the standard I hold for myself but I’ve been reminded I wasn’t able to run let alone race 3 weeks ago. So to get back on that startline and finish is a win in itself. Also good to see THE RUNS out there doing the grid walk and supporting a pair of good guys in the running scene.
Good to see you back from your injury.
