10 years of the Tenbury 10km

On Sunday 5th August a number of Croft runners made the annual trip to Tenbury Wells to take part in their 10km road race. At the start it was announced that this was the 10th race prompting Bryan and myself to wonder how many times we had taken part! hence a look back through the records and this report:-
1. 4th August 2002.
106 runners and 6 walkers started the first race from the sports field adjacent to the swimming baths to take part in a race that has changed little over the years. The undulating course using country lanes, has a climb of 250 feet at about mid distance before dropping back down for a fast run in along a footpath to finish back on the field.
6 Croft runners took part, Ian Price being the first home in 10th place (1st vet50) in 39.14.Tom D finished next, 29th in 44.41 followed by President Bryan, 31st in 44.54 (2nd vet60). Nigel Davidson finished 52nd in 50.14, Alison Davies 94th (1st u14JL), Jackie Markham 98th in 68.12. Dave Mansbridge of Wrekin Road Runners won in 34.35 and the first lady was Alyson Noake in a time of 41.46  also of Wrekin Road Runners. Dave George running for Ludlow Runners finished in 27th position in 44.18.
2. 3rd August 2003.
114 runners for the second race again with 6 from Croft, Nigel Misselbrook having a good run to finish 6th in 38.32 closely followed by Dave Moss 8th place in 39.04. Guy came 18th, 1st vet55 in 42.03. Dave Rouse sen. 54th in 48.18. Nigel Davidson 64th in 50.10. TomD 87th in 54.53. Dave George again took part still as a Ludlow runner and finished 17th in 42.22. The race was won by Henry Thomas of Telford in  36.43 and Shona Cutler of Malvern was 1st lady in 41.32.
3. 8th August 2004.
141 finishers with 8 from Croft, Stacey making his first appearance in the race finishing 4th in 39.06, closely followed by Dave Moss, 5th place in  39.14, Dave Powell 17th in 42.40, Dave Rouse jun 22nd in 43.19, Dave Rouse sen. 60th in 50.28, TomD 63rd in 50.44. Nigel Davidson 73rd in 52.23, Catherine Percival completed the Croft finishers 109th in 63.15. Simon Norwood 13th  in 42.08, Dave George 48th in 49.10, Jon Utley 53rd in 50.01, Simon Powney 56th in 50.13, Richard Hornsby 69th in 51.37 all competed for Ludlow before their move to Croft. Simon Link of Stourbridge won in 37.32 and first lady was Lyn  Cox of Tipton Harriers in 42.24.
4. 7th August 2005.
A record turnout of 187 runners. First  of the 6 Croft runners home was Ian Price, 16th place and 2nd vet50 in 39.13, Dave Moss was 36th in 42.02, Patrick Pearson 51st in 43.47, Gary Gunner 80th in 46.43, TomD 90th in 47.51, Catherine P 160th in 60.17. Simon N still running for Ludow came 13th in 38.43, as were Dave G 34th in 41.53, Richard 52nd  in 43.53 and Jon 96th in 48.42. The race was won by Paul Ward of Wrekin Road Runners in 33.50  and first lady was Lyn Cox  of Tipton Harriers in 41.09.
5. 6th August 2006.
178 runners took part . 5 Club members and possibly the best result by a Croft runner with Stacey finishing 6th in 37.47, Simon still in Ludlow colours was 18th in 40.49, Ian Price was 29th in 43.20, TomD 59th in 47.40, Patrick 70th in 48.47, Gary G 75th in 49.43, Ashley Cooke running for Hereford Couriers was 57th in 47.31. The race was won byTom Kenderine of Kidderminster and Stourbridge A.C. in 34.27, 1st lady was Louise Hey also of Stourbridge in 43.27.
6.  5th August 2007.
175 runners with Stacey again being the first home of the 5 Croft runners 11th place in 39.43 closely followed by Simon (still with Ludlow) 12th in 40.01. Gary Pearson was next, 15th in 41.51, Ian Price, 18th in 42.11, TomD 45th in 46.34 with  GaryG 54th in 47.18,. The Race was won by Matt James in 36.34, first lady in 4th place overall was Kim Fawke in an impressive 37.39!
7.  3rd August 2008.
The highest turnout yet with 212 finishers. The 8 Croft runners being led home by ‘Jimi’ Charalambous, 44th place in 43.59, Suzanne, making an early appearance in  Croft colours was 52nd in 44.55, TomD 63rd in 45.45, GaryG 81st in 47.24, Dave Rouse sen. 86th in 47.47, Nicky 95th in 48.32, Bryan 116th 1st vet65 in 51.26, Rachel 147th in 55.14. The race was again won by Tom Kenderdine now running for Halesowen AC and Kim Fawke was again first lady, 4th o/all in an even faster 36.25.
8. 2nd  August 2009.
Again a good turnout with 208 finishers, 9 from Croft. First Club runner home was Dave Rouse jun. 15th place in 40.00, followed by Suzanne  29th and 2nd lady in 42.43, Dave George 31st in 43.04, Jon Utley 33rd in 43.09, Nicky 67th in 46.58,  Dave Rouse sen.  83rd in 48.16, Martin Williams,making his debut, 85th in 48.33, Frank Luscott also making his debut 100th in 50.12, Nigel Davidson 159th in 57.19. Tom Kenderdine again won  in 34.52 followed home in 2nd place by first lady Kim Fawke in 36.08!
9. 8th August 2010.
170 runners with 6 from Croft. First Croft runner home, showing that he can run fast as well as far! was Gary Pearson, 14th place in 39.34, Martin knocking more than 5 minutes off last years time 35th in 43.02, Ian Price 44th 1st vet60 in 44.09,TomD 70th in 47.40, Dave R sen.73rd in 47.58, Bryan 121st 1st vet70 in 55.31. Luke Mason won in 34.40 and Helen Fines was 1st lady in 38.08.
10.7th August 2011.
166 runners, first home of the 7 from Croft was Kevin Thomas 24th place in 42.07, followed by Dave George 30th in 42.26, Martin 37th in 44.39,Neil Taylor 55th in 47.05, Dave Rouse sen. 58th in 48.00, TomD 67th in 48.35, and Bryan 108th 1st vet70 in 54.54. Josh Carr of Worcester won in 35.35, first lady was again Kim Fawke 2nd o/all in 36.22.
11. 5th August 2012.
And so to this years race which, contrary to the organiser’s opinion, is the 11th!  176 runners with just 5 from Croft, led home with an impressive debut by Rob Llewelyn’s 16th place in 41.36, Martin continued his regular appearance in the race with 34th in 44.06, TomD 63rd in 48.43, Suzanne Powell 104th in 53.49 and Bryan 140th in 59.21, strangely  the over 70 category seems to have disappeared although the number of septuagenarian runners is on the increase! First home was Ross Jones of Tipton Harriers in 33.47, Claire Thomas had an excellent run to finish 1st  lady, 22nd overall in 42.54.
