Weekly CARC Update – 19/01/2026 – 25/01/2026

News

Hello all! It’s Sunday which means it’s time for the Weekly CARC Update. I’m (Bronwyn) back this weekend and before we start our catch up on this past week at Croft, I would like to thank Tori, Sam and Huw for all of their hard-work in keeping the weekly report up and running (pun not intended) while I’ve been away welcoming my little baby; Evan, into the world! We expect that he’s going to be a little runner, that’s for sure!

Our Junior runners returned to their training session on Monday evening after a longer than usual Christmas break! As per usual, their session took place at Wigmore School, with plenty of endurance and turn techniques to learn about!

As for our Senior runners, Tuesday consisted of a wet and windy hill session around the orchards at Shobdon with Sam. Long time Croftie; Gary, also got to celebrate his 80th birthday on this evening with plenty of running, cake and treats!

On Thursday, it was over to High Vinnalls with Tim for a Long Interval (and dodge the fallen tree) session.

Onto Parkrun Saturday, and unfortunately it was another cancellation for Ludlow with plenty on trees still fallen across the trails. This meant several Crofties decided to head over to Queenswood Country Park. Eric finished in first position, with a time of 20:22. Steve and Simon joined him in the top ten. Simon would also record a new PB of 23:42. Thea was the first CARC female. There would be another Croft win at Hereford; Sam J, who finished in 16:39. Elsewhere, Mike B and Steph K ran at Newent Parkrun for the first time, with Steph finishing 4th female overall.

Elsewhere on Saturday, some of our Fell Runners (Tim and Flora) were out running at the Cwm Nant-y-Groes Fell Race. This race was around 5 and a half miles, with about 2,080 feet of ascent. Flora said: “We had horrendous weather, it rains from the start to the finish. Muddy and very slippery plus really bad the visibility. It makes it difficult for us runners to see the right route to follow. It’s a great race,I did enjoyed it.”

Tim Jones – 01:25:48
Flora Gunner – 01:28:07

This weekend also saw the Arc of Attrition ultra races in Cornwall, with our own Sam M taking part in the Arc 50 – a 80.5km route. With a cut off time of 15 hours and 30 minutes, Sam would finish in an excellent 8 hours and 38 minutes, 12th overall and 2nd in his age category.

So as the week comes to a close I would like to remind everyone to come along to the Hereford and Borders Winter League race at Rotherwas next Sunday. It looks to be a very exciting finish to the league for Croft with the Mens and Ladies team in with a chance to take home the team trophy and lots of Croft runners in with a chance of individual medals.

As always, if you have any news you would like including in the newsletter or weekly roundup, please get it to Bron, Huw, Sam or Tori before 6pm on Sunday.
