Weekly CARC Update 20th to 26th July 2026

Another action packed week of running from Croft with the highlight undoubtedly Croft sealing an emphatic win of the Herefordshire and Borders XC Summer League series with lots of individual winners too.

The Juniors kicked the week off, with schools now on holidays it was a smaller group of boys only, we welcomed two brothers coming along for the first tim

e. They all worked super hard on both sprints and interval training on the track at Wigmore. Tuesday seniors training was a hilly affair on the drive at Shobdon Church – Kelly was in charge. On Thursday Tim led a session at Croft Castle.

Wednesday evening was the fourth and final race of the Summer XC series with a two lap hilly race at Newton Court Farm. Croft had an amazing 40 runners, or 1 in 5 of the whole race! We had six scoring teams and the first team finished about 12 mins ahead of the next with a 1,2,3 for the first men home.

Croft were the triumphant winners of club trophy with Sam Juson taking home the series trophy for overall winner – but fantastic that there were so many series medal winners.

The focus of Parkrun on Saturday 25th July was Ludlow where the club had 9 pacing – a big thank you to Christina, Huw, Liza, Max, Roland, Mike B, Neil, Sue & Jamie. Volunteers this week were Jamie, Ingrid, Seb & Tim W-H. The pacers helped 16 runners get a PB at Ludlow including Casper (20:58) and he finished 4th overall (his younger brother Archie also clocked up a PB). Tori finally bettered her previous PB from 2018 coming home in 29:09 Further afield Karen Coffey clocked up her 50th Parkrun and set her all time Parkrun PB (32:38) at Northampton . 7 Crofties ran at Queenswood Simon would finish comfortably in the Top 10 with a new PB of 22:49. Kath was 2nd female overall! There were also PBs for Adrian and Hayley. Oli C-S was at Hafan Pwllheli – his first time running this super sandy course with his dog. He said it was “hard going on the sand!”. Angus is working on his Parkrun alphabet and was at Victoria Park, Newbury, Finishing in just over 30 minutes, it would leave him with just Z to finish in the Parkrun alphabet.

Y DOMEN FAWR FELL RACE 25/07/2026 ( distance 5.60 miles and 1358 total ascent).

Flora’s report from this race…..”We’re 44 runners in total who participated in the race. It’s only a short distance but tough, very steep hill not runnable.Coming down the hill was quite challenging, very slippery even the ground was dry. Some runners were setting down to go down hill

My time: 1:11:44 came 3rd out of 6 in my age category.

Steve Partridge and Saffi Reid zipped around the course at Purslow Show came 1st male and 1st female overall – with some fancy silverware to boot!

Cat (Tim W-H daughter) came second in the Rab Pinnacle Ridge Extreme Skyrace at the weekend. 28km with 2700m of ascent on really technical ground with a lot of scrambling involved.

And that rounds up another busy week for Croft Ambrey Runners.
