Ron Skilton Half Marathon & 12k

Race Reports

Just 9 hardy runners took part in the Ron Skilton run this year – five in the Half and four in the inaugural 12k (it was 10k last year).

The conditions were harsh as it had rained overnight and continued to rain heavily for most of the run. Some of the downhill stretches where they had lopped trees were particularly technical and treacherous, with some muddy backsides on display at the end. They decided to drop the Relay this year as it was so undersubscribed and instead, extended the 10k further into the Forest and included the Ford crossing, thus making it almost 13k and 1,700+ feet of climb and then changed the half marathon to add in another 700ft of elevation, bringing it to a total of 2,900 feet and definitely longer than 13.1 miles!!

Despite the dismal weather, everyone seemed to enjoy it – many describing it as the hardest half-marathon they had done, but they couldn’t wait to do it again. Most Crofties seemed to agree with that statement, although we know we are all a tough bunch and relish a challenge!

No age cat winners in the Half Marathon, although Flora came 2nd F60 and Christina 3rd F40.

In the 12k, the Marriotts did the double age cat with Jo F50, 2nd lady and Crispin M50. Sue Wood was 2nd F60 and Ali Davies 3rd OF
