WVR New Years Day 10k

Race Reports
222 people took part in this years Wye Valley Runners New Years Day 10k and I along with Rob Wood was there representing Croft.
I had a slight cold in the week running up to the race, which seemed to get worse as soon as I signed up for the run, so just thought I’d have an easy one.
It was a  cold, dry morning which was ideal and the river Wye was a sight to see in flood.
I’ve run this course a few times but had forgot about the several steep hills!
Anyway once I started running I gave it my best, despite not feeling spot on.
I ran beside one lady up a fairly steep hill and tried to keep pace with her and she got me to the top quicker than I would have normally run. Unfortunately I had to recover a bit coming down the other side so she ran on and pulled ahead!
The last few hundred meters I gave it everything I’d got to try to get under an hour, which I did…..just!
I did run the course stronger than I have in the past so I was pleased enough with that.
Enjoyment wise, the Mortimer 9 was much more fun!!
Ed: Julies time was 59.45 and Robs 56.09. Overall winner was Paul Graham of Pontypridd Rodents in 34.32

  1. I will have to give this a go sometime.almost made it but I spent NY too far north and had to do my own training…which didn’t involve drinking. Didn’t realise there were so many hills in Hereford!
