Pendock Spring Chicken run

Race Reports

Jasper & I ran in the Pendock Spring Chicken Run 10k today. The weather was good for running, cool to start with, with only the slightest breeze. No other Croft runners (or indeed Herefordshire league runners) were involved.

Although it is a friendly local village race focused around the primary school, it’s extremely well-organised. The route was mainly on the road, but there are two sections through farmland, including a couple of hills, albeit small by Shobdon Wood standards. Some of the farmland is a bit rough underfoot & there was a fence to negotiate, but road shoes were the order of the day. I was chatting with Cliff Berry from Ledbury at the start line, but he went off at the gun like a rocket and eventually finished 2nd. I got tripped by a runner behind me, stumbled but managed to recover my balance.

I completed the 10k in 46.10, quite satisfactory for me considering the terrain. I won the over-60 age group & came 35th overall out of 192 finishers. Jasper was 15th in 43.35, a PB for him at 10k
