Croft Castle X-C

Race Reports

Fortunately the dire weather forecasts for Sunday morning were replaced by kinder ones, so the rain had rained, so it was wet under foot, but at least it stayed dry throughout the race, for the benefit of the record turnout of 212 finishers (and a few who fell by the wayside). In the absence of Simon (injury), and Andy (pulled muscle during the run), we were going to struggle to remain first equal in the men’s team event (Sam is doing a separate report on the women), even with Toby valiantly competing with a nose broken the day before in rugby. Nevertheless, Stacey again produced a fine result (1st MV40) in 5th, just pipped by Matt James; Mark in 7th ran a strong race, just beating an ever improving Sam (8th). Next came the ever reliable Dave G (23rd), just ahead of Toby (3rd junior man, which shows the quality of that category). Greg and Nigel had their customary battle, and youth again prevailed. The rest of us toiled round the course, for little obvious gain, except some personal pride in completing the course, albeit (in my course) in a slower time than last year. So the men’s team were 2nd to Maldwyn Harriers on the day, with whom they are 1st equal overall, just one point ahead of Wye Valley.

  1. Congratulations to all Croft Ambrey members, both on and off the course, as we successfully hosted the biggest race in the history of the Herefordshire Leagues. You all played your part in making the event a wonderful and enjoyable occasion. A few photos are now available on the website Gallery. Unfortunately, they are mostly of poor quality and I had to delete most of them.My camera was refusing to focus properly – or is it just a case of a bad workman blaming his tools ? I have asked Santa for a new camera, but it appears that I have not behaved well enough over the last year.
