Tom and Gary followed up the first of the new handicap races in Croft Woods with a tough summer fell race over the Stiperstones. I felt the need for a rest after the Tuesday evening’s exertions. Gary came away with the 1st MV65 prize, with Tom 2nd.
Stiperstones fell race
A hint of a summer’s evening in the air as we lined up for the start, alongside a torrent rushing down off the hills (better down here than up there!) A steady climb gave way abruptly to a steep ascent, then relatively clear running on top before plunging down into bog and back up again to the summit and a hell-for-leather race down a stream valley (very soft in places), then a stony track before the last run in on the road. Steve Cale won (just) in 27.36, Brian Lloyd (ex Croft) was 47th (39.01) with me a couple of yards behind (48th, 39.04). I suspect I was the oldest of the 94 runners – a sobering thought!
