Muddy Woody 6

News

Clear, sunny but cold conditions welcomed the 300 plus entry to Haugh Wood near Mordiford for the 2010 edition of Wye Valley Runners 6 mile woodland cross country race.

The course was very much as used in previous Muddy Woodys and included two very cold and tricky river crossings at around half distance and a couple of seriously steep muddy slopes one of which was a nasty sting in the tail near to the end of the course. Owing to the previous week’s weather being mainly dry there was , perhaps, less mud than some competitors were expecting which did little to make the final steep climb any easier to negotiate.

Owing to a local major road being closed due to roadworks the start was delayed by 30 minutes to 11.30am to allow late arrivals a better chance of making the start.

Matt James (Hereford Couriers) led home the 283 finishers in a time of 43 minutes 30 seconds winning the race for the 4th year in succession,13 seconds ahead of Jon Newey ( Malvern Joggers) 2nd and John Pullen (Wye Valley Runners) 3rd in 43.50. First lady home was Nicola Edwards (Couriers) who was 60th overall in a time of 56.46.

The quartet of Croft Ambrey runners who took the start all achieved noteworthy performances with Neil Powell finishing an excellent 30th in 51.47, Gary Gunner 61st in 56.51 and claiming 1st mv60, Frank Luscott was 84th in 58.42 whilst Kim Wood, Crofts only female entrant, finished 266th in 84.23
