Monkhall Farm Cross Country

News

The first ‘mild’ day since late November: but the biting wind, sticky conditions on hard frozen subsoil made it a tough course in places. Finishing up a hill didn’t help! It was good to see again faces that have been absent for a while, largely because of injury: Nigel Misselbrook returned after maybe a 2 year gap, Daren and Dave George reappeared after lengthy injury breaks, and Guy too. Tom and Nicky were recovering from illness sustained over Christmas. So, where were all the fit runners?

Suzanne had an excellent race, judged to perfection. Although having to count as a Junior she in fact was the first senior lady (in the cross-country league, where age is no bar), and also secured the county Junior Lady title, winning in 32.47, ahead of Lisa Quinn (33.02). It will be quite some time since a Croft runner held a county title! Nicky fought hard to finish 10th (36.32), with Rachel not far behind in 14th (40.36), and Karen almost in sight (16th, 41.40), putting the Croft ladies team 2nd. Kim also stuck in there, finishing in 46.28.

Matt James won the men’s race (45.10), by a mere 9 seconds, from Christian Jones. Stacey was 9th (48.03), Dan 14th (49.57) just ahead of Richard (16th, 50.15) and Nigel Misselbrook (19th, 50.34). Dave George had a fine return to racing ( 23rd, 51.39). Gary G also did well to keep Steve Herington more or less in his sights (41st, 56.57). Neil ran well, finishing in 46th (58.26). Then came Guy (50th, 59.48) closely followed by Tom (51st, 59.56) and Daren (54th, 61.41). Bryan, the only category winner in the men’s race, was 66th (73.04). The A team was 4th, and 4th overall but only 7 points behind 2nd placed Couriers. The B team is 10th, the C team didn’t trouble the scorer!
