Herefordshire winter X-C series: Race 1, Dinedor

News

Finding the new venue in the fog was not easy (remembering the map might have helped) and the fog persisted till after the last runner was home. Inevitably the going was muddy in places, and running round orchards is beginning to pall a bit, but it was an interesting course, up and down for the first half (up to the top (?) of Dinedor) and then the final 2+ (it felt like more!) miles round field margins. Stacey, still carrying an injury, was first club runner home, in 7th (41.13), swiftly followed by Mark L (41.46), improving all the time, and Simon ( 42.07). Glyn completed the A team (3rd), while Dave G, Stuart, Andy (first junior man, and a great start to cross-country racing) and Rob put the B team in 6th. Newcomer Ben R also ran well on his debut (36th out of 84), 40 seconds ahead of Martin (49.11); Gary (1st MV65) was a minute behind, and Guy a full minute slower. The C team was 11th. Neil, Daren, Jim (well done!) and Tom were the 16th placed D team. (Wye Valley managed 7 teams in all). Sue D ran a great race, steadily overhauling male runners, till she was within a couple of minutes of Clara (25 years her junior): a great 2nd place. Linda battled hard, as always, and claimed 6th place, while Sam continues to improve and came home a fine 3rd Croft runner, 17th out of 50. The A team, like the men, were third. Liza, Charlotte H and Sue P packed well to put the B team in 6th. Rachel and Kim had no third runner to make one more team, but will no doubt have emerged, like the rest of us, race fitter after this first test. Results on the Results page (go via Events).
